2015 POLICE TECHNICAL TRAINING
HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTOR COMPANY WILL CONTINUE TO PRO- VIDE TECHNICAL TRAINING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES THIS YEAR. CLASSES WILL BE CONDUCTED AT THE MOTORCYCLE MECHANICS INSTITUTE (MMI) IN ORLANDO, FL AND AT HARLEY- DAVIDSON UNIVERSITY IN MILWAUKEE, WI. ALL CLASSES ARE TAUGHT IN ENGLISH.
We are pleased to be working closely with MMI and our own Harley-Davidson University to bring the best possible training to technicians and officers regularly employed by those law enforcement agencies using Harley-David- son®
Police Motorcycles. Course curriculums have been designed to bring
the content of Police Technical Training classes closer to the professional Harley-Davidson training received by dealership technicians. Students will be evaluated on their ability to perform the required procedures.
COURSES ARE STRUCTURED AND IT IS RECOMMENDED STUDENTS ATTEND CLASSES IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER:
Police A - Vehicle Maintenance (No Prerequisites) Police D - Electrical Diagnostics (Requires previous attendance in Police A) Police F - Chassis Set-up/ABS (Requires previous attendance in Police A & D) Police B - Power Train Service (Requires previous attendance in Police A, D & F) Police E - Engine Management Systems (Requires previous attendance in Police A, D, F & B)
TRAINING CLASS SCHEDULE
Enrollment for Police Technical Training classes is open to all technicians or officers employed by police agencies using Harley-Davidson®
motorcycles.
Participants should be familiar with hand tools and somewhat mechanically inclined due to the technical nature of the preventive maintenance and diag- nostics curriculum offered.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS POLICE A – VEHICLE MAINTENANCE
This course is based on the needs for routine, sched- uled maintenance of Harley-Davidson® Police Model motorcycles. The skills needed to perform mainte- nance that meet Harley-Davidson specifications are complex and diverse. This course is designed to offer participants a “hands on” introduction to all aspects of routine, scheduled maintenance. Upon completion of this course, participants will perform a wider variety of maintenance tasks more efficiently and to Harley- Davidson specifications.

POLICE D – ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTICS This course concentrates on the fundamentals of elec- trical charging, ignition and starting systems. As new technologies are used in Harley-Davidson®
Police motor-
cycles, electronics play an ever-increasing role in the proper functioning of the motorcycle’s various systems and components. Participants will learn to use modern electrical testing equipment to properly diagnose and correct abnormalities in the motorcycle’s electrical systems. The course includes design and function, proper system set-up and adjustment. Basic electrical fundamentals will also be reviewed.

POLICE F – CHASSIS SERVICE / ABS SERVICE This course will introduce the student to the procedures needed to service and set-up all major chassis compo- nents of Harley-Davidson® Police motorcycles. Students will learn the design and function and acquire the skills to maintain and adjust the chassis components. Students will also receive instruction in the proper functioning, diagnosis and repair of the Anti-Lock Brake System designed for Harley-Davidson® Police Motorcycles.

POLICE B – POWER TRAIN SERVICE This course will present an overview of the design and function of the Twin Cam 103TM
engine and six-speed
transmission, including clutch assembly. Portions of this class involve the diagnosis of abnormalities within the engine and transmission. The instructor will coach the participants to develop and improve their diagnostic and measuring skills. Tasks include engine removal, disassem- bly, component identification, reassembly and installation.

POLICE E – ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS This course will introduce the student to the Electronic Fuel Injection Systems used in Harley-Davidson®
Police motor-
cycles. Students will acquire the skills to maintain, diagnose and repair E.F.I. Systems without the use of Digital Techni- cian. Diagnostics and repair of Electronic Speedometers and Turn Signal/Security Modules will also be presented.
