Dream Ride Has Become a Part of Me

y Dream Ride Experience began as a volunteer trip to the Farmington Club in 2013. I was there to help set up, and when everything was done I explored the grounds to see what it was all about. I met many wonder- ful volunteers, staff, and athletes. I chowed down on some great food and listened to awesome live music
performed by musicians affected by intellectual disabilities. When all was said and done, I knew I wanted to ride in the Florida to Connecticut Rally. I created a team with my Enforcers Motorcycle Club Brother
Jason. Through a chance encounter at a restaurant in Nahant, Massachusetts, I met Robert “Bobby” McNeil, a longtime Special Olympics athlete who would become my reason to ride. Everyday was a new adventure. My fellow Dream Ride
Rally Riders and members of the support team became fast friends. We relied on each other to ride well as a group and
reach every destination safely. I cannot express in words the feeling of camaraderie that I felt with everyone. The most emotionally touching part of the experience for
me were the daily stops. There were athletes from that region wearing huge smiles and holding handmade signs “Welcome Dream Riders” and “Thank You Dream Ride”. I could feel my heart beat through my chest as I rode by and said hello to each athlete. It was overwhelming. We gave them all Dream Ride medals and a donation for each of their regional programs, but I have to say each of us left with so much more. I held a medal in my vest for Bobby, and couldn’t wait to present it to him when I got back home. When we pulled into the Farm- ington Marriot on the last day of the rally, Bobby and his family were waiting. That was the most poignant moment of the experience for me.
