Farris retires from competitive skating
Joshua Farris, the
2015 U.S. bronze med- alist, announced in July his retirement from competitive figure skat- ing as he continues to recover from a concus- sion.
“I am heartbroken
that my competitive skating career is com- ing to an end before I was ready, but I plan to stay involved in the sport that has given me so much,” Farris said. “While I focus on regaining my health, I will continue to skate, coach and choreograph. I also plan to volunteer as a figure skating of- ficial, pursue my college education and work on my music. “Thank you to my family, friends, coach-
es and those who have supported me on my journey.” Farris, who was coached by Damon Al-
len and Christy Krall, is the 2013 World Junior champion and 2015 Four Continents silver medalist. He resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

as a member of the Asian Hall of Fame Class of 2016. Yamaguchi is a two-time World champion (1991–92) and the 1992 Olympic champion. In addition to her on-ice accom- plishments, Yamaguchi is a children’s book author, founded the Always Dream Founda- tion, created her own line of activewear and won the mirror ball trophy on the sixth sea- son of “Dancing with the Stars.”

silver medalist, presented Yamaguchi at the induction event. There was also entertain- ment from the Filipino Youth Activities Drill Team, culturally inspired cuisine and educa- tional displays. The Asian Hall of Fame is a project of
the Robert Chinn Foundation and was es- tablished in 2004. The Asian Hall of Fame is a national recognition event for Asian Pacific Americans that honors achievements across industry and ethnicity with a national reach. The event not only honors achievements, it inspires the next generation and builds a na- tional community of Asian Pacific Americans.

Summer weddings Kim Navarro, a two-time U.S. ice dance
bronze medalist with partner Brent Bom- mentre, said “I do” this summer, marrying Mark Freeman, whom she had dated for 10 years prior to their nuptials on May 28. The couple exchanged vows in Ketchum, Idaho. Bommentre and Skyliners coach Josh Babb were included in the wedding party. Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim, the
2015 U.S. pairs champions, tied the knot on June 26 at Flying Horse Resort in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At the reception, the 2016 Four Continents and U.S. silver medalists col- lected donations for a local animal shelter and the U.S. Figure Skating Memorial Fund. Their coaches, Dalilah Sappenfield and Larry Ibarra, were both in the wedding. The pair, who have competed together since April 2012, got engaged in April 2014.
