Learn to Skate USA member Sam Goodman, 5, of Boston, had successful heart surgery re- cently. To help put a smile on his face before the operation, U.S. Figure Skating sent Sam a get-well-soon package that contained a T-shirt, Snowplow Sam coloring pages, stick- ers, Sam zipper pulls and a little Snowplow Sam. “He thought it was great that Snowplow had his name,” his mother, Sarah, said. Sarah sent U.S. Figure Skating a thank-you card and a photograph of Sam coloring Snowplow Sam. Sam is a member of the Skating Club of Boston Skating Academy.

Miami University held a 5K walk/run on campus in April to benefi t the Wounded Warrior Project. The team began fundraising in October of 2015 through web donations, coinciding with online announcements that it would be raising awareness and money over the next six months leading up to the event. The team held a number of awareness events, bake sales and sign-up events on campus for the 5K. With the help of a Warrior Speaks representative from the Wounded Warrior Project, a local DJ, a representative of a local yoga studio and wonder- ful spring weather, the RedHawks turned April 16 into another memorable, meaningful and gratifying day to continue the rich tradition of giving back through community service. More than 100 runners and walkers participated and raised more than $10,800. Miami University Synchronized Skating teams were recognized the following week by the school’s athletic de- partment with the Hal Jasper Community Service Award in recognition of outstanding com- munity service for the 2015–16 season.
