HOSTS PET DAY DOBBY, LENA EMERGE AS BIG WINNERS
U.S. Figure Skating employees proudly showed off their four-legged friends on the front lawn at headquarters during the inaugural Pet Day on June 7. For one hour on an overcast Tuesday afternoon in Colorado
Springs, 16 dogs, one cat, and their owners took part in a group photo, a pet parade and in contests that determined “Best Trick,” “Best Voice,” “Cutest,” “Owner Look-Alike” and “Best Dressed.” A seven-member judging panel, which included guest
judges and World competitors Alexa Scimeca and Christopher Knierim, and Mirai Nagasu, used a scoring system of 1 to 6.0 to determine the contest winners, who received certificates and pet-related prizes. For the final event of the day, the animals competing for the title of “Cutest” lined up in front of the judges’ table where the field was narrowed down to five finalists. Te five walked one at a time across the 40-foot blue carpet, and ul- timately, the coveted prize went to Ingrid Benson, manager, high performance administrator and logistics, and her dog, Dobby, a 10-month-old, 8-pound dachshund mix. Dobby also played dead to win the prize for “Best Trick.” Mia Corsini, manager of events, was the day’s other mul-
ticategory winner with her pug named Lena. Corsini and Lena claimed top honors in the “Best-Dressed” division for Lena’s Miss Piggy costume, and in the “Owner Look-Alike” category, where they received 6.0s across the board. Te prize for best voice went to Annie, a toy poodle be- longing to SKATING magazine editor Troy Schwindt. All of the entries were introduced during the pet parade,
where they lined up in a staging area and walked down the carpet.
Corsini, representing Lucky Dog Rescue in Colorado
Springs, handed out T-shirts and other items to Pet Day par- ticipants. Donations also were collected for Lucky Dog Res- cue.
