To further assist with the rebuilding process, CP is teaming with a Toronto community group to move a 20-foot container filled with new items such as bedding, pillows, toiletries, socks, small toys, towels, and water to Edmonton. The container will go to the Edmonton Emergency Relief Service Centre to help evacuee families. The group has painted the container like a post card and those who have made donations have signed and left well wishes for their neighbors to the west. “Because of the efforts of our employees, we have contributed $200,000 plus in-kind transportation support to the people of Northern Alberta — everyone at CP should take pride in their heartfelt contribution,” added Wallace.

Operations Train 280 (St. Paul, Minn.– Bensenville

Bay, Ont.) has been changed from as required to daily, handling grain traffic and servicing customer locations between Winnipeg and Thunder Bay. Counterpart Train 321 operates as required. These trains also handle traffic and switching previously performed by Trains 420/421. Train 402 (Coquitlam, B.C.–Moose

Jaw, Sask., manifest) has been cut back to operate between Alyth Yard, Calgary, and Moose Jaw, with traffic redistributed to Trains 400 and 198. Westbound counterpart Train 403 terminates at Alyth, with Coquitlam manifest traffic now handled by Trains 199 and 401.

Ohio Derailment

On July 10, Train L324-09 from Chicago Barr Yard, Ill., to Toledo Stanley Yard, Ohio, was northbound on the Toledo Sub when the train went into emergency at milepost BE 181.6 at Tontogany, Ohio. The conductor walked back and found that cars 126-131 had derailed. Some of the cars were carrying hazmat, but no leaks were found. Six units were hauling the 215-car train. The wreck was cleaned up by the next day, with all of the regular Toledo Sub trains being rerouted via the Pemberville Sub (via Fostoria) while the wreck was cleaned up.

Operations Trains Q033, L033, L142, Q234, Q247,

Q380, Q550, and Q551 have all been removed from the operating plan. The following trains were added or tweaked — Q280 is now an Indianapolis Avon Yard, Ind., to Toledo Walbridge Yard, Ohio, variable schedule (VS) train running six days a week. Q314 from Grafton Yard, W.Va., to Cumberland Yard, Md., now runs Thursday and Sunday. Q315 from Cumberland to Grafton now runs Monday and Saturday. C701 runs from Cincinnati Queensgate Yard, Ohio, to Patio Yard, Ky., on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday while C702 runs from Patio Yard to Queensgate on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Q031 from North Bergen Yard, N.J., to Jacksonville TOFC, Fla., was increased to run five days a week. Q260 now runs seven days a week between Avon Yard and Selkirk Yard, N.Y. Q332 between East St. Louis Rose

NORFOLK SOUTHERN SCOTT LINDSEY

S-line Update

Following months of speculation, Norfolk Southern recently rerouted one of the manifest trains operating over its S-line between Salisbury, N.C., and New Line (Morristown), Tenn., via Asheville, N.C. This move follows NS’ decision to reduce the maximum authorized speed over the entire route to no more than 25 m.p.h. earlier in the spring. Piedmont and Central Division employees along the route continue to express concerns that the route might someday be spun off to a regional operator. As of July, Train 165 (Linwood, N.C.– Chattanooga, Tenn.) now operates via Altavista, Roanoke, and Bristol, Va., rejoining its traditional route at New Line. With this new routing, its total running time has increased from 24 hours, 30 minutes to 27 hours, 20 minutes. It also requires covering one additional crew district into Knoxville, Tenn. In addition to reducing traffic on the S-line, Train 165 now carries the Roanoke block once moved on Train 195 (Linwood–Bellevue, Ohio). This is designed to reduce the number of extras operated each week. After setting off its Roanoke traffic, Train 165 now fills with Chattanooga tonnage previously forwarded on Train 15T (Allentown, Pa.– Chattanooga). With one less train on the S-line routing,

this trackage across the Blue Ridge loops and the French Broad River gorge of North Carolina is handling just one eastbound
