activities for the day included a trip to the Forney Museum and Caboose Hobbies (the latter of which is surprisingly closing, having been given a 90-day notice by its landlord just a few days before). Thursday found buses heading into
the foothills on I-70 where passengers transferred to the narrow gauge Georgetown Loop Railroad. A special photographers’ bus took some attendees to a behind-the- scenes look at the railroad, as well as some lineside (well, as linesided as you can get in the mountains) shooting. After touring the loop railroad, the convention moved to the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, where the narrow gauge theme continued as 2-8-0 No. 346 paraded around the museum grounds with an attractive train of two green coaches. A very nice barbecue lunch was served at the museum. About 25 photographers returned to the
museum that evening for the night photo session. The museum was very cooperative, moving No. 346 around the grounds for four different scenes. Once the locomotive headed for bed in the roundhouse, three more static subjects (D&RGW 2-8-0 No. 318, D&RGW F9A No. 5771, and Chicago, Burlington & Quincy 4-8-4 No. 5629) were illuminated before the bus headed back to Denver. Friday was a day of meetings and seminars. Following the board and membership meetings, Nashville, Tenn., was confirmed for a June convention in 2017. A special screening was held just before the banquet of the newest production from Richard Luckin, The 20th Century Limited (see ON THE MENU for more on this program). The banquet was held that night with guest speaker Ed Dickens, senior manager of Union Pacific Historic Operations, who presented a program on the most recent work done on UP 844.
