Right of Way Crews Keep Co-op Lines Clear of Trees Please watch for our crews spraying and cutting near you

clear of brush and overhanging trees. With 6,154 miles of line to maintain, and an extended spring and summer growing season, their job isn't easy.

E

East Central Electric follows a right of way plan that ensures every mile of co-op right of way is trimmed and treated. It takes years for the crews to work through the co-op's extensive system of lines, but the work pays off in fewer outages, faster response times, improved quality of service and reduced maintenance and repair costs.

This year, your co-op right of way crews will trim trees and clear undergrowth along rights of way near Checotah, Council Hill, Eufaula Lake, Hitchita, Keefeton, Stidham, and Warner.

Herbicide treatment are scheduled for areas around Beggs, Bixby, Dentonville, Glenpool, Keifer, Kellyville, Mounds, Shamrock, and Winchester.

Members living along these lines will be notified about the work in the mail. Please remember that locked gates or other structures can prevent crews from accessing right of way. Your cooperation is appreciated!

Members with questions or concerns about the right of way trimming or herbicide treatments are encouraged to call the co-op at 918-756-0833.

UNDERSTANDING RIGHT OF WAY EASEMENTS

A right-of-way (ROW) is a strip of land that an electric utility uses to construct, maintain and repair its power lines. An easement contract between a utility and a landowner

is a legal restriction on land use that allows the utility to build, operate and maintain a power line. It also allows the landowner to retain general ownership and control of the land. Right of way easements give a utility the right to survey, construct, operate, maintain, upgrade and repair

a line located on the defined ROW. The easement includes the right to clear and trim vegetation and trees from within the entire easement area once the line is built, and remove danger trees adjacent to the ROW in order to ensure the safe and reliable distribution of electricity.
