Stop and smell the roses

Jennie Butchart planted the first of her flower gardens in an abandoned limestone quarry near her home in 1904. 100 years later her seasonally inspired Victorian gardens on Vancouver Island were designated a National Historic Site of Canada. Each year over a million bedding plants in some 900 varieties give guests an uninterrupted bloom from March through October. We can’t think of a more picturesque place to stop and smell the roses!

The pioneer spirit of Western Canada pervades every corner of this wilderness playground. Blessed with a gentle coastline and islands off shore, the garden of Eden that is British Columbia tempts with ethereal pleasures of the culinary and cultural kind. Go west, and the province of Alberta swaggers into view with snow-capped Jasper and Banff national parks alpine rich with scenic splendors and wildlife wonders. Let your taste for adventure soar, fill your heart and soul with nature’s promise, walk on the wild side… and breathe in the fresh mountain air that inspires you to explore.

All aboard

Via Rail’s The Canadian winds its way through some of North America’s most spectacular scenery as it speeds, views uninterrupted, from Vancouver to Jasper in Banff National Park on an overnight trip that’s not just a train ride, according to the guests who have done it. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
