INSIDE-THE-PARK HOTELS AND LODGES

WUKSACHI LODGE® “ Mother Nature staged each redwood miracle in its most impressive

way and I was most in awe of Muir Woods’ high trail. – DR. KATHRYN HARRIGAN, NY

The best way to feel at one with nature is to spend the night in the heart of the wilderness with nature’s masterpieces all around you. Built in 1999 in a spectacular alpine setting at a 7,000-foot elevation, the rustic Wuksachi Lodge is located in the Giant Forest area of Sequoia National Park. Among the famous residents at home here are the 275-foot-tall General Sherman Tree, the largest tree on Earth, and massive Moro Rock inviting with views of the park that will take your breath away.

Get the inside story...

Hear little known stories of success and loss in filmed vignettes created exclusively for Tauck by filmmakers Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan as you travel through the Central Valley from Yosemite to San Francisco – including the efforts of John Muir and Theodore Roosevelt who campaigned passionately about the protection of our wilderness treasures.

Giants of the Forest

Nature’s skyscrapers, Giant Sequoias are the heaviest living things on Earth, are capable of soaring skyward up to 286 ft. in height (or 27 stories tall!), can have a waistline measuring 113 ft. around (wider than a city street!) and grow naturally in only one place on Earth – the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Stand in awe in their presence and try to imagine all that has happened for the past 1,000 years in their forested “home.”

MAJESTIC YOSEMITE HOTEL Formerly The Ahwahnee, this hotel is truly a masterpiece of “parkitecture,” uniquely designed to highlight its natural surroundings inside Yosemite National Park, which include Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, and Glacier Point, and a meld of cultural influences. Opened in 1927, its historic décor features hand-stenciled beams and exceptional murals – and in the dining room, 34-foot-high windows framed by stained glass, let the outside in when you’re dining!
