The standard of candidates from across the UK in the 2015 President’s Medal Award continued to impress judges this year.

Following the initial nomination and essay, the finalists selected to face the panel of judges at Edinburgh were Michael Yates (Scotland South), Andrew Patton (Northern Ireland), Matthew Williamson (Border and Lakeland), Becky Robertson (West Midlands), Nick Eccles (Lancashire) and Nicky Lockyer (Devon).

he President’s Medal Award is the highlight of the


World Conference in Argentina. Impressing judges in both the essay and interview sections was Michael Yates, hailing from East Logan at Castle Douglas. Michael is no stranger to success having won several National competitions in HYB and Young Farmers, as well as preparing and showing his family’s cows to win major shows across the UK. In partnership with his father Brian in the family farm, Michael is accountable for the day-to- day running of the 250-head Logan herd.


Michael strives to showcase the herd and promote the breed at as many shows as possible, his highlights include reserve


champion at the 2006 National Holstein Show with Logan Outside Roxy, SuperCow at AgriScot 2012 and interbreed champion at the Royal Highland Show 2014 with Dilandy Debonair Tabitha and interbreed champion at the Royal Highland Show 2013 with Kellywell Marshall Brooke.
