Opteon XP10 (R-513A) is a non-fl ammable azeotropic HFO blend with a GWP of 631. With the need to move to lower GWP refrigerants as required by the F-gas legislation and the phase down steps, it is an ideal refrigerant for a number of applications.

Opteon XP10 is already approved by a large number of compressor manufacturers and is suitable for high and medium temperature applications. These include medium temperature commercial refrigeration and

condensing units, water chillers, heat pumps and DX chillers. Off ering excellent capacity and energy effi ciency R513A has a GWP value that is one of the lowest for non-fl ammable refrigerants, and is a good alternative to using R452A in a medium temperature condensing unit or R410A in water chillers.

Opteon XP10 can also be used as a direct replacement for R134a in existing equipment with no loss of capacity. As it has no glide, it can also be considered an easy replacement with a GWP over 50% less than 134a. CIAT Clivet

The water loop system or WLHP is a suitable system for many diff erent types of application, including shopping centres, offi ces, and hotels.

It is a two pipe hydraulic circuit

connecting multiple water to air refrigerant heat pumps (terminal units), kept at neutral temperature by injection and rejection systems. The water loop can be connected to other recovery devices, increasing the overall effi ciency of the system. There are no thermal energy losses in distribution and no need for pipework insulation; no limits in size for the system; and no refrigerant pipes passing through the building. In an Italian shopping mail complex, the Vulcano Buono air conditioning system was entirely entrusted to a WLHP by Clivet. Each individual setting automatically sets and maintains its own ideal climate year-round, independently of its own position, size or intended use. Using the WLHP system, the air conditioning is only activated when and where it is needed.

CIAT has launched its Hydrociat water- cooled chillers and heat pumps, in 31 models from 270 to 1750 kW with two performance levels.

off ers a balance between capacity and operation costs. The Hydrociat LW HE high effi ciency version provides premium

effi ciency and optimal operating management. The range boasts high energy effi ciency due to a twin-rotor screw compressor with continuous capacity control; a fl ooded shell and tubes evaporator with grooved copper pipe bundle; an electronic expansion valve optimising the supply of refrigerant; and an economiser system. At just one metre wide, the new generation Hydrociat is one of the most compact water-to-water chillers and heat pumps, adapting easily to the confi guration of existing machine rooms. Its fl exible hydraulic connections can be attached to pipes already in place, making it the perfect plug-and-play system.

Operating continuously, it allows chilled water production between -12°C-20°C, and hot water temperature production up to 63°C.


With the input of REFCOM and BESA, AREA is off ering the acr sector’s fi rst calculation app to aid compliance with EN378 and F-Gas requirements for fi eld engineers. The app is intended to make fi eld engineers’ lives easier and help them get an understanding of what the new requirements of EN378 mean for them.

The app enables calculation of concentration and fl ammability safety limits under EN378, and advises if a design is compliant or requires further investigation.

By inputting the design and use of a room as well as the refrigerant charge and type of gas, the app can identify where there are non- compliance issues and where taking additional measures will increase the charge allowable for A2L gases. The app also calculates CO2

tonnes equivalent values for various

refrigerants under F-Gas for completion of log books and labels on equipment.

It is available free to download in English for iOS and Android. Other linguistic versions will be released in the coming months.
