Panasonic expands heat pump manufacturing capacity

P

anasonic’s factory in Pilsen, Czech Republic began manufacturing its air-to- water heat pumps three years ago. Production has been an ever- increasing endeavour at Panasonic’s Czech factory, in part due to order demands for its air-to-water heat pump solutions, Aquarea which have been increasing year-on-year. According to The European Heat Pump Market and Statistics Report which includes data from 21 European countries, European heat pump sales grew by +7.4% in 2020 with 1.62 million units sold setting a new sales record despite the pandemic. Since the Panasonic heat pumps began production at

the Pilsen factory location in 2018, capacity has been continuously increasing to meet current demands and future growth acceleration in Europe.

Heat pumps contribute to an annual reduction of 9.16 million tons CO2

emissions in the EU, and

according to IEA, heat pumps could save 1.8 billion tonnes of CO2 per year in the building and industrial sectors. Managing Director of Panasonic HVAC Europe, Enrique Vilamitjana says, “Heat pump technology in Europe has been in demand over the past few year, however, now we are really seeing it accelerate. It’s a region very conscious about climate change

Carel invests further in Arion

C

arel Industries has acquired a further 30% of the share capital of Arion S.r.l., the joint venture based in Bolgare (Bergamo Province - Italy), established in 2015 between Carel and Bridgeport S.p.A. with the aim of developing sensor technology expressly dedicated to the air conditioning and refrigeration sectors. Bridgeport’s sale of this stake to Carel brings the Group’s total shareholding to 70%, while the remaining 30% is held by Bridgeport. The transaction is consistent with the Group’s long-term strategy since the use of increasingly advanced sensors will make the equipment more efficient, more reliable and more connected with the eco-system in which they are inserted, also facilitating the activation of digital services. It will also allow for

greater integration between Arion and Carel, with an improved focus on those applications that are showing significant growth trends, while at the same time allowing for greater investments in terms of personnel and know-how. Finally, the possibility of having an increasingly modern and competitive range of sensors in its wide portfolio of solutions and products guarantees Carel a role as a single operator in terms of completeness in the air conditioning and refrigeration sectors.

In 2021 Arion had revenues

of €2.7 million, EBITDA of approximately €500,000 and net cash of approximately €350,000. The consideration for the acquisition of 30% of the share capital of the above-mentioned company was approximately €1.2 million.

PipeSnug secures investment on Dragons’ Den

P

ipeSnug founders Chris Burdett and Alex Lever have taken BBC One’s Dragons’ Den by storm, pitching PipeSnug and FlueSnug to the famous panel of successful entrepreneurs. Mr Burdett and Mr Leve braved the Den to face Touker Suleyman, Sara Davies, Deborah Meaden, Peter Jones and Steven Bartlett in a bid to secure investment for their products and an expansion of their business, timing it to perfection as pipe seals become mandated as part of the Building Regulations from June 2022. “We wanted to go on Dragons’ Den to help secure investment to develop new versions of the product to satisfy the increased demand in the coming months

and years as PipeSnugs become the norm on site,” explained Mr Leve.

Following a nerve-wracking but exciting pitch and negotiation, including intense questioning from all of the entrepreneurs, Mr Burdett and Mr Leve secured a joint investment from Dragons’ Deborah Meaden and Peter Jones, who immediately saw the opportunity PipeSnug and FlueSnug presented. “We prepared our pitch carefully and rehearsed a lot, but nothing can prepare you for the experience of Dragons’ Den,” said Mr Burdett. “We are delighted Deborah and Peter saw the opportunity and chose to work with us.”
