alcolm Thomson has been elected president of the Building Engineering


Services Association (the BESA) for 2016/17.


He began his career in 1972 as a technician apprentice with Sadia Airofreeze, studying at Willesden College of Technology. After working his way up, he became a director and co-owner of Halcyon Air in 1985 before founding Enigma Environmental Services in 1999. He is also co-owner of Kelvin Ross Engineering, which specialises in marine air conditioning. A fellow of the Institute of Refrigeration and a director of the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Industry Board, Malcolm is a former chairman of the BESA South Midlands Regional Branch and vice chairman of the Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Group, and a member of the Membership Committee. He was elected vice president in July 2014, and president elect in July 2015.


Advanced Engineering has appointed Richard Davies (above) as sales manager. The appointment follows the news that Advanced Engineering has been chosen as a new UK distributor for the Little Giant range of condensate pumps.


Richard will head up a new team in charge of the Little Giant product line, where his direct experience with condensate pumps in previous positions will prove a valuable asset. With 30 years’ experience in the HVACR sector, his skills embrace design, sales and technical areas having previously worked for wholesalers HRP and Climate Centre, as well as spending nine years at Hawco.


The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has announced that Professor Jeremy Watson will become its next president from 1 October 2016.


Meanwhile, Tim Hopkinson of Hargreaves Ductwork has become president elect, while Giuseppe Borgese of Bouygues E&S FM UK has been elected vice president. Jim Marner of Interserve Engineering Services will serve during 2016/17 as immediate past president.

He is professor of Engineering Systems and vice-dean in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at University College London. He is also chief scientist and engineer at BRE. He was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s 2013 Birthday honours for services to engineering. Other appointments include Mike Carr who becomes IET deputy president and Andy Bevington and Virginia Hodge, who both become IET vice presidents.


The British Refrigeration Association has appointed John Smith, group technical director for Beijer Ref UK & Ireland as president. John succeeds Mike Lawrence, a stalwart of the BRA, who has held the position since 2014. The handover took place at the recent FETA Strategy Forum, held in Marlow. John has been in the RAC industry for more than 30 years in a variety of technical sales roles and has been an active member within the BRA. He is currently chairman of the Equipment been vice president since 2015.


Having recently taken up his new role at Bosch, Shaun’s position on the board will see him attend meetings up to four times a year to discuss budgets and management accounts, the policy and direction of the association, staff issues, membership, and consideration of reports from each group and committee.


Ziehl-Abegg has appointed David Miller (above) as managing director of its Middle East operation, as business in the region continues to expand. His experience in the HVAC sector and regional knowledge provides a good base for the challenge of helping Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) by sharing expertise and supporting their product development, the company says.


Bosch Commercial and Industrial’s business development director, Shaun Mansbridge, has been appointed to the board of ICOM.


A-Gas has appointed Enzo D’Alessio (above) as commercial director. He previously worked for South African company Kayagas and has widespread experience of working in the industrial gases and LPG sector. He also has a Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering.


Daikin Applied UK (DAPUK) has expanded its chiller sales force in the south with the appointment of Danny Quinn as sales account manager for chiller products.


He has more than 20 years of experience in the industry with a strong background in chiller sales and business development. He will be focusing mainly on the consultant market place, but also playing a strategic role with key accounts and end users.
