A £25.6m project to rebuild the former Brechin High School in Angus, Scotland, has now entered phase two of the overall aim to become the Brechin Community Campus. Having previously been tried, tested and trusted on past projects, Barr + Wray specifi ed HygroMatik at the campus’ steam room facility.
The HeaterCompact CDS, designed for wall
mounting, is assembled from corrosion resistant stainless steel and ideal for minimal servicing requirements. Conscious of clean water necessities in the steam room, the HeaterCompact CDS can operate on either fully de-ionised water, softened water or tap water, and with the SuperFlush limescale management and an integrated cylinder rinse system, limit the limescale in the steam. Its reusable steam cylinder can be cleaned without chemical intervention and is both age and temperature resistant. With rapid steam production, optimum energy effi ciency and the ability to permanently monitor the complete steam experience process, the steam generator allows for an all-round low maintenance and safe operation.
The Brechin Community Campus is due for completion in October 2016.

Climaveneta has launched TECS-FC, a high performance air cooled chiller range with magnetic levitation compressors, fl ooded evaporator and EC fans.
Dedicated to IT-cooling and process
cooling applications where cooling demand is constant all year round, the new free-cooling chillers use the cold outdoor air for cooling the indoor environment, fully harnessing the savings potential contained in this renewable source.
TECS-FC features a smartly managed free-cooling system: according to the outdoor air conditions and operating water temperature, the chiller automatically switches between total free-cooling, hybrid free- cooling and mechanical cooling mode thus achieving an operating effi ciency with EER values around 220.
But premium performance results are not only delivered during the total free-cooling mode. Within the hybrid and mechanical operations the top level technology of the compressors with magnetic levitation brings benefi ts in terms of performance, adjustment, vibrations and weight.

Airedale International has launched a 100% free-cooling outdoor cabin cooler which off ers substantial energy-saving potential compared with non free-cooling alternatives. The new system could save ISPs, telecoms and rail operators millions of pounds in energy costs.
The Ecotel Free Cool (5-15kW) is a compact, resilient outdoor cabin cooler designed for track-side side signalling applications, and switching and relay stations. The system is suitable for new installations or can be supplied as a retrofi t. Harnessing the benefi t of low ambient UK temperatures – based on maximum summer outside ambient of 40°C, minimum winter ambient of -7.5°C – a 10kW unit can provide free-cooling for 100% of the year. Designed for where fl oor space is limited or unavailable, the Ecotel Free Cool has a secure and tamper proof mounting bracket system, and is easy to service with front component access and removable centrifugal EC fan. Temperature sensors are mounted in the return side of the unit to monitor dry bulb conditions, and the controls interface allows unit performance to be maximised, including monitoring and control of room and exterior air temperatures.

ABB’s new AC variable-speed drive is designed specifi cally for a wide range of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) applications. With harmonic mitigation, an intuitive operating panel and native BACnet (and Modbus) communications, the ABB HVAC drive, ACH580, is suited for the uninterrupted
performance required of mission-critical applications such as hospitals and data centres, while achieving the ambient comfort necessary for maximum productivity in commercial buildings, such as offi ces and schools.
The drive operates accurately with any type of HVAC motor, including induction, permanent magnet and synchronous reluctance (SynRM) motors. It can also be integrated with any major automation system, communicates in familiar HVAC languages, controls motors up to 250 kW and is plug-in-ready to install. The ACH580 has the highest effi ciency class for a drive - IE2. The drive and IE4 synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) motor package delivers the best energy effi ciency performance. Energy savings are calculated internally and can be sent back to the building management system (BMS) via fi eldbus. The drive also includes variable-speed internal fans, further saving energy.
