“The flexibility and freedom a leisure vehicle offers is fundamental to the growth of the industry, allowing families and people of all ages to enjoy caravanning and motorhoming,” he adds. The leisure vehicle industry is considered to be a real
British success story with around 95 per cent of touring caravans sold in the UK manufactured within our shores – many around the Hull area, – while as many as 65 per cent of motorhomes are also manufactured in the country. The expanding popularity of leisure vehicles also
reinforces the growing preference by British holiday makers to take their breaks at home. A recent Visit England tourism survey indicatied that trips
in Great Britain rose by seven per cent to 105 million last year, whilst overall spend on accommodation in the camping and caravanning sector increased by seven per cent year on year – the largest increase across all accommodation types. NCC public relations manager Paul Mauerhoff believes
the “Beauty of Britain” is one factor which has led to an increase in home holidays. “Not only are more people starting to realise the beauty of
their own country, but now many families prefer to take several short breaks and it is easier with a leisure vehicle to pack up and go at short notice.” “In addition we find more and more younger people and families are attracted to the lifestyle because modern leisure vehicles are so well equipped.” Kitted out kitchens and bathrooms as well as the latest
technology such as USB connectivity in every room are just some of the features you might find on a modern leisure vehicle.
The NCC is optimistic that the upward trend in sales and
popularity of leisure vehicles will continue following the success of the Caravanning, Camping & Motorhome show. The NCC has partnered with The Caravan Club and The Camping and Caravanning Club in a joint awareness building campaign to promote the lifestyle benefits of caravan and motorhome holidays. Designed to attract new audiences to this style of holiday,
‘Freedom to go’ will draw on the appeal of the great outdoors and the freedom to explore that owning a ‘leisure vehicle’ presents. To find out more go to
