Pole mate K

omperdell has launched a new and innovative system for adjusting the length of a walking pole. The Stiletto can be adjusted easily and quickly via a button on

the handle. This new

adjusting concept changes the

height without the use of standard twist-lock or power lock systems used on most hiking poles which can be time consuming and in some situations dangerous.

Because it can be awkward and time consuming a large number of hikers and backcountry skiers do not bother to adjust the length at all once it is set, even though shorter or longer lengths would make a difference to the situation. The Stiletto allows poles to be adjusted faster and with ease

making it simpler when out skiing or hiking. This simplicity of adjustment allows hikers or skiers to feeling more balanced and secure on uneven and difficult terrain.

Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI) index. Rather than taking a “one-size-fits- all” approach to fitness monitoring via step count or distance tracking, PAI provides you with a target score that is proven to maximise your lifespan and reduce your risk of lifestyle- related diseases. This score is a new metric based on comprehensive scientific research, and is a personalised reflection of your body's response to physical activity based on heart rate. Mio’s patent-pending PAI algorithm is based on the HUNT Study, in which more than 60,000 individuals were closely monitored over 20 years. The extensive scientific study links activity levels to health outcomes. Keeping your PAI score above 100 will increases your lifespan by up to 10 years and provides maximum protection from lifestyle diseases. “PAI is the most relevant index for measuring whether your activity level is sufficient to

achieve maximum health benefits,” said Ulrik Wisløff, Professor at Faculty of Medicine, Norwegian University of Science and Technology. “Managing your PAI score helps you to reduce your risk of lifestyle-related diseases. Put

simply, it helps you live healthier for longer.” With PAI, everyone’s goal is to maintain a score of at least 100, but the quantity and

intensity of activity required to achieve that goal is personalised based on a user’s profile. One individual’s path to fitness may be very different from another’s, which emphasises the need for a personalised approach to monitoring health and fitness. Steps and other activity metrics are meaningless unless you can relate them to your body's unique physiological response, particularly in terms of changes in heart rate.

VibramArctic Grip V

ibram introduced its new Arctic Grip technology at ISPO Munich 2016 - an innovative solution for

walking on ice surfaces. The company considers Arctic Grip to be its most advanced technology to date and it carries a yellow octagon trademark. The problem of shoes slipping on ice has in the past been solved by inserting metal support devices into the footwear. While this allows for excellent grip,

Vibram believes this is not a practical solution, because it damages surfaces and cannot last as the material will deteriorate. Arctic Grip uses only Vibram rubber and

promises the same performance in terms of grip, without the need to add anything additional to the external of the footwear. The design of the sole features specific lugs made using Vibram Arctic Grip technology to assist grip on ice and special thermochromic lugs activated when temperatures fall below 0° C. In addition, unlike the metal protrusions, it is claimed Arctic Grip does not scratch or damage indoor surfaces and does not absorb liquids and dirt, while maintaining excellent grip and traction, especially on wet ice.
