EDITOR’S LETTER

PRESIDENT & CEO James Balda jbalda@argentum.org

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER Gina Mamone

At senior living communities nationwide, the focus on health and wellness isn’t just limited to the residents. In embracing holistic lifestyles, these communities are also investing in the wellbeing of their caregivers. In fact, studies show that prioritizing caregiver health and satisfaction can lead to improved recruitment and retention strategies. By offering caregiver support through improving working designs and layouts, instilling a culture of kindness, providing flexible working environments and more, senior

living communities are creating a better work environment for their staff. These efforts don’t go unnoticed either - happy and healthy employees often lead to satisfied residents and improved overall community morale. It’s a win-win situation for all involved in the pursuit of holistic living at senior living communities across the country. Right now, many of us are focused on the holiday season and, not only are sugar plums dancing in our heads, but many of us are filled with warm thoughts and the desire to help staff and team members thrive. This issue is filled to the brim with ideas you can use to build morale and provide caregivers a reason to call your community their “work home.”

I was so touched by many of these concepts and creative ideas to keep caregivers engaged and thriving that I find it difficult to highlight just a few. Whether it is through design p. 8 and p. 28, creating a culture of kindness p. 36, preparing for a future in respite care p. 15, or investing in educational opportunities to create career paths and opportunities p. 35, senior living communities across the country are actively engaging caregivers on many levels to keep people at the heart of senior living engaged, healthy and motivated.
