NADC Update

NADC continues to grow with membership now exceeding 350 and newmember applications being received every week and we continues to focus on ensuringmembers carry appropriate certification and operate to the Association’s standards as a stepping stone to achieving DrainSafe accreditation.

DrainSafe registration applications continue to flow in, and a number of organisations are now starting to stipulate contractorsmust be DrainSafe registered to tender for contracts. The DrainSafe website is being enhanced with a series of videos designed to help informcontractors and their customers about what DrainSafe is and how it operates. NADC is committed to DrainSafe becoming the standard by which all contractors aremeasured.

The NADC Hydrant App powered by eviFile is being enhanced with a new release of the software, and the addition of a new waste site database with functionality that will include identifying the nearest sites, when they are open and what they take. The intention is that, over time, this will also include real time information about capacity. An increasing number of contractors are signing up to the hydrant which brings operational efficiencies and helps to avoid using the wrong hydrant and/or the wrong standpipe. It also provides information about water extracted and when combined with a new standpipe solution will allow NADC to tender for water company contracts. Any contractor with an interest should contactmatt@nadc.org.uk As use of the App expands the cost of use reduces making this an evermore attractive product.

NADC is working with CIRIA on gathering data (by way of survey of members) that will help to informan update of the guidance in respect of gullymaintenance and in particular provide clarity in respect of decanting and the use of grey water to flush

through. This is a project that NADC has been working on for a long time with the intention of providing clear instructions about this very important subject. Any contractor that has an interest in this subject and would like to knowmore should contactmike@nadc. org.uk

NADC is also working on a number of initiatives that should benefit the whole industry. Two of these are highlighted below.

■ NADC is in dialogue with the National Infrastructure Commission

(NIC) about the contribution effective maintenance canmake in combatting ground water flooding, which is an area of focus for the Commission. Focused work on this subject will commence in the autumn and NADC will highlight the importance of existing regulations being effectively policed to improve gully and drainage maintenance across the country. If we are successful, the whole industry should benefit froman increase in demand for contractor services.

■ NADC is also engaged in highlighting the importance of pre and

post work CCTV surveys when build over applications aremade to water companies. A number of water companies are already indicating that they willmake this amandatory part of the approval process. There are tens of

thousands of build over applications every year and this would provide a great opportunity for contractors across the UK.

NADC is also really looking forward to The National Drainage Show and the first National Drainage Awards on 22nd November. In its third year, the show will be bigger and better and is fast becoming themust attend event for drainage contractors. it is a unique opportunity to view all the latest machinery, equipment and technology in on place and to take advantage of presentations on a range of subjects in the Drainage Theatre. All at no cost!

The Awards Dinner promises to be a memorable event with legendary boxer Frank BrunoMBE presenting the Awards to the winners. The Dinner will be hosted by Comedian Jed Stone and will be held at the renowned‘Valley’ the home of Charlton Athletic Football Club.
