Genesis Biosciences Vice President of Technology Dr. Chris Charles, said: “The Evogen Biogas Additive is an exciting addition to themunicipal wastewater treatmentmarket in the UK and across Europe. With daily dosing, the additive
helps to optimise the AD process and counteract the negative effects that the process has on water bodies and the climate. By introducing biogas into the treatment of wastewater we are ultimately creating a source of renewable energy which has huge potential and is
very exciting.”
The Evogen Biogas Additive, which uses specially selectedmicrobes to aid AD, underwent stringent efficacy tests across Europe including a live trial in the UK which secured pre-eminent results across all of its predetermined objectives*.
United Utilitiesmanages thewater andwastewater services in the NorthWest of England, delivering 1.8 billion litres ofwater a day tomore than 3million homes and businesses, aswell as treating all the wastewater. Its Innovation Lab is focussed on providing themost efficient and sustainableworking practices and allows both start-up and established companies a live operational environment to learn and develop potential ideas and solutions.
United Utilities Innovation Labwas a threemonth live trial that tested Evogen Biogas Additive in a real- world environment based on a set of predetermined objectives; increase biogas generation, increase energy production and reduce final sludge volume for disposalwith no detrimental impact on the final sludge quality. Genesis’ additive surpassed on all targets.
*Evogen Biogas Additive produced a 19.3%increase in biogas production over the twelve-week assessment, a 9.1%boost in energy production -which translates to an additional 49,482 KWH over the period – and a reduction in sludge for disposal of 12%-16%. By utilising Evogen Biogas Additive, the cost analysis showed that the test facility could generate an extra £45,000 per annum, equating to a £2 return on every £1 spent on product.
