Pipe Doctor course becomes

first WRC-approved training Water Research Centre (WRc) has now approved the Pipe Doctor patch repair training course, delivered by Source One Environmental (S1E) – the first training to which it has ever given Approval.

“We have rigorous testing procedures for the products which we approve, so that our approval can be trusted,” explained Peter Henley, Technical Consultant at WRc. “For this approval, we had to develop criteria against which we could judge whether the course was truly valuable and consistent.

“Following my audit of the course, I was confident that the course was demonstrating best practice, according to BS EN ISO 11296-4: 2018 and our own current Drain Repair Book. I was very pleased to issue our Approval,” he concluded.

In order to confirm the WRc Approval, Peter examined the course material in detail as well as gaining an understanding of the administration process. Most importantly, he attended a course in person to assess the delivery of that material and the assistance given

during the practical element of it.

The course takes one day and covers all aspects of the safe use and correct installation procedure for the Pipe Doctor™ product. There are both classroom and practical elements of the course, during which candidates install their own patch to gain confidence in the techniques described to them.

Every candidate that passes the course is issued with a certificate and ID card, valid for three years. The course is also accredited by Energy & Utility Skills and successful candidates are registered with them too.

Courses are delivered either at S1E’s offices in Yorkshire, close to the M1, or at customers’ depots, as required by the trainees.

“I am confident that the course is helping to improve the professional levels of work within the drainage industry and am pleased with its association with WRc,” stated Peter.

Jet Aire secures £1m highways maintenance contract

Wear, Durham, Cumbria and the East Midlands as part of Carnell Group’s overall asset management commissioned by Highways England. Carnell are the UK’s leading providers of Highways Agency Drainage Data Management System (HADDMS) surveys, prioritising areas in need of remediation through asset inventory and condition assessment of road surfaces and sub-surface drainage assets.

Jet Aire Services Director, Keith Ferris, said:

Leeds-based drainage and groundworks company, Jet Aire Services, has secured a £1m contract to provide drainage maintenance services across various regions of the UK on behalf of highways asset management company, Carnell Group.

The contract, one of Jet Aire’s largest-ever, was awarded following the recent completion of a previous £100,000 contract for Carnell Group which required Jet Aire to carry out jet vacuuming for Highways Areas in the Northeast and Herefordshire. Similar works will now be carried out for Highways Areas in North Yorkshire, Northumberland, Tyne &

“Jet Aire are delighted to secure more business from Carnell Group on the strength of our performance on the original contract. The highways sector is a key part of Jet Aire’s growth strategy. We have targeted this type of business with the benefit of a £400,000 investment in a JHL Flexline 414 Recycler Unit – currently one of only four in the UK and the only one in the North. It can work on large diameter drains and recycles the water it uses, which significantly reduces downtime and makes it ideal for motorway works as the unit can stay on-site for the duration of the shift.

“Investment in ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification means that Jet Aire’s management systems are aligned with the exacting standards of leading nationwide operators such as Carnell Group and this has also been a factor in securing larger contracts. We recently received another 414 Flexline recycler from JHL, one of five that will be added to fleet, before the end of May, in readiness for supporting our ever expanding customer base”.

With a Middlesbrough office in addition to its Aberford HQ, Jet Aire Services has been established for over thirty years. The company’s services also include tankering and waste disposal, UV lining, infiltration sealing, robotic cutting, root cutting, epoxy spray Ultracoating, surfacing, block paving, fencing and civil engineering works.
