Grosvenor Grammar School, Belfast

winners of young Water Dragons award Students, David Dugan, Craig Ennis and Knox Wilson from Grosvenor Grammar School, Belfast were recently honoured with the Future Water Association Young Water Dragons Prize at The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Competition.

The students wowed the judges with their project entitled LifeBlock. As part of the project, the team created a concept to send aid to developing countries and countries that have experienced natural disasters. Once the said flood has been contained, the Lifeblock can then be used to build suitable housing and other buildings.

The Future Water Association Young Water Dragons Prize was awarded to an innovative project that we believe showcases the next generation of creative thinkers and entrepreneurs. The students will receive a cash prize, a meeting with a water company chief executive, and a work experience day with a leading water company.

The students from Grosvenor Grammar School were chosen from over 500 finalists from across the country in The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Competition after pitching her project to judges.

Paul Horton, CEO of Future Water Association said: "The Future Water Association is delighted to have taken part in The Big Bang Competition this year. We were looking for creative thinking in the student’s engagement with water science and technology and we found this in bucket loads! We have certainly seen some of Britain’s finest young minds at work here and choosing our Young Water Dragon for 2018 was a real challenge. Our winners have the potential to go a long way in the water

industry and create a sustainable future for the environment and generations to come."

The Big Bang Competition is an annual contest designed to recognise and reward young people's achievements in all areas of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), as well as helping them build skills and confidence in project-based work.

Congratulating David, Craig and Knox, Mark Titterington, Chief Executive of Engineering UK which organises The Big Bang Competition said: “Looking at this innovative project it’s easy to see why it stood out to the judges, however we’ve been blown away by the quality of entries from all the finalists – not only for their brilliant work but for showcasing it to crowds of people at The Big Bang Fair.

“It certainly bodes well for the future that the scientists, engineers and inventors of tomorrow are already producing such astute and creative project work”.

Workshop days – helping you make the right decision

Workshop days are a great way to not only see equipment in use but also a chance to get ‘hands on’ and use the equipment yourself, which is a great way to help you make the right decision before making a purchase.

This year Jetchem are running several workshop days across the UK in order to showcase new products and developments within the industry. Live demonstrations of jetting equipment will be available including the new swing out reel van pack and also the compact petrol pack which is proving very popular with busy inner city contractors.
