Vision 20/20: Thinking Outreach Connecting Through Gospel Conversations
By Rev. James Fast
Immigration has pushed the city of Prince Albert, Sask., to grow by leaps and bounds over the past five years. We at Community Bible Church (CBC) are being challenged even more with our re- sponsibility to share Christ one-on-one with people around us. In May we held a Saturday morning seminar on “Connections.” Two presenters shared some very practical direction for us: one from Power to Change (who works with students on the University of Saskatchewan campus) and another who has done a lot of one-on- one ministry over the years with various people groups. One of the great “takeaways” they shared was the principle of
loving others in very practical ways. God has called us to build re- lationships with people out of genuine unconditional love. People are oſten just looking for someone who cares. We need to be there with the love of Christ. As a church we definitely need to grow in this very important area. Here are two recent testimonies of what God is doing. Heinrich is the service manager in a car dealership. Te Lord
has opened doors for him many times to share Christ at his work- place. Here is his story: Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:16 esv). God opens up opportunities that we can use for His glory. Here is an opportunity that He gave me. God sent a man to me at my work place, who was heart-broken
because somewhere in another church someone hurt him. Tey were rude and were not sensitive to his need to hear the message of Jesus Christ. Te man was looking for an answer on how to find peace and joy in his life. I shared what Jesus did for him on the cross, and that He loved him so much. Te man was stunned to hear this, but not ready to give up his life yet. But God’s work had started, and I began to pray for him. Sometime later I saw him again, and we began to talk. He shared a wonderful testimony of how he had become a believer. God is at work and He is great. Beth is a music teacher. She, too, has many one-on-one oppor-
tunities to share the Lord. She writes, Recently as I was setting up in a hotel for the “Soul Sisters Event,”
the liaison from the hotel joined me to go over last minute details. She was a young woman of around 26. Eventually she asked about the group we were hosting which opened up an opportunity to share.
People are often just looking for
someone who cares. We need to be there with the love of Christ.

“J.L.” did not know how to communicate what she believed, but was open to me asking questions. Aſter some basic questions about “Who is Jesus? What did He do? How does one get to heaven?” she was open to me sharing what I believe the Bible says. For the next 45 minutes I was able to share the whole gospel message with her. Please pray for her. Tese examples of Gospel conversations encourage us to con-
nect with people God brings across our path. Others in CBC are beginning to connect with neighbors. We are being challenged as an FEBC church to build caring relationships with people around us and to be ready to enter into conversation with them about Jesus. Te people immigrating are new to our country and city. Tey are looking for someone who cares and who will help them adjust. We would appreciate your prayer for us in this particular area of outreach.
