Hospice Care Everywhere

Most people are aware that we have an excellent inpatient unit at Compton Hospice which offers free expert medical and nursing support for local people with an incurable illness. However very few people realise that for every one person we care for on our ward, there are 33 more people we are looking after out in the community. At any one point in time, Compton Hospice is tending to over 600 patients, most of whom are being cared for in their own homes.

Increasingly, we are finding that demand for care in the home is increasing. In the space of just 3 months referrals for this type of care have grown by 20%, with between 80 and 100 new patient referrals each month.

We aim to provide the very best level of care for patients and families at home which includes:

Clinical Nurse Specialists – our team of highly skilled and specialist nurses (who operate very similarly to Macmillan Nurses) visit patients in the home to monitor pain and symptoms and can even prescribe medication.

Hospice at Home – a team of healthcare assistants can provide personal care and offer emotional, psychological and spiritual support.

Social Workers – visit families to offer practical advice whether it be financial, social or discussing advanced care planning.

Support for the family – Compton Hospice also offers support to family members and relatives of those who have an incurable illness with access to counselling and complementary therapy.

Bereavement Support – we offer support for families and relatives of those who have died as a result of an incurable illness to help them come to terms with their feelings of loss.
