JANET AND GETHIN ARE DIAMOND COUPLE

In early June 2014 Janet Jones from Willenhall was admitted to Compton Hospice Inpatient Unit for pain management and symptom control for her diagnosis of terminal cancer.

It was during her stay that Janet informed staff that she was due to celebrate her 60th Wedding Anniversary with husband Gethin. Despite being very poorly Janet was adamant that she would reach her special milestone. Janet, who married husband Gethin on 26th June 1954, commented “They can keep knocking that door, but I am not going anywhere until I have seen our diamond wedding anniversary. And depending on how I feel, I might event stay a few days longer. We shall see how things go.”

At Compton Hospice we are privileged to be able to offer our support to patients and their families at these special and important times.

It was therefore our honour to host a special ceremony for the couple to renew their wedding vows. The ceremony took place took place in our Sanctuary room at the hospice and was conducted by our Chaplain Rev Elaine Anderton. As part of the ceremony the couple exchanged rings, lit a candle and sung a number of their favourite hymns in the presence of their family, friends and Compton Hospice staff. We even arranged for a special anniversary cake and button holes to be made for the happy couple.

Following the ceremony Janet commented “It was just so beautiful. They couldn’t do enough for us, my Gethin and I had a beautiful day.”

She added “Gethin and I have been so happy together. He has always been so kind to me and has always looked after me. I’ve loved every second with Gethin and I wouldn’t have changed our time together for all the money in the world.”

Compton Hospice is delighted to have been part of Janet and Gethin’s special celebration.
