Charity Shops Win Prestigious Award
We are over the moon to announce that Compton Hospice has been honoured with a prestigious award praising the work of our network of charity shops. Compton Hospice Trading Company has been awarded the accolade of “Most Profitable Charity Shop Operation” in the 21 to 100 Shops category at the 2014 Charity Retail Awards.
The accolade demonstrates that Compton Hospice’s network of 23 charity charity shops are the most profitable in the category of charities that operate between 21 and 100 shops. Over the last 12 months Compton Hospice shops have generated (after expenses) in excess of £1 million a year which goes towards funding the annual cost of £6 million needed to deliver care at Compton Hospice.
In previous years Compton Hospice has entered the “Most Profitable Charity Shop Operation” in the smaller 11-20 shops category, and has won 7 out of the 9 years, the last time being in 2012. This is the first year that the hospice has entered into the larger ’21 to 100’ category after new stores were opened in Perton, Wednesfield, Claregate, Codsall Village and Kingswinford.
General Manager of Compton Hospice Trading Company, Paul Carter, said “We are thrilled to have won this award which demonstrates the fantastic contribution our charity shops make to funding the care we deliver at Compton Hospice. As a charity, less than a third of Compton’s funding comes from government meaning we need to fundraise in excess of £4 million every year, of which a substantial amount comes through our Charity Shops.”
Mr Carter added “We would not be able to continue to keep our charity shops running were it not for the support and dedication of our loyal supporters, customers, volunteers and shop staff. Their support is the backbone to the success of any shop. We really appreciate their dedication, motivation and passion in helping us to continue to raise vital funds to support patient care at Compton Hospice.”
