A Colourful Compton in the Park
Thousands gathered in Wolverhampton’s West Park on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June 2014 to participate in Compton Hospice’s 5th Annual Compton in the Park fundraising celebration.
The event, which for the first time was extended from one to two days, featured an array of family friendly entertainment including live music, arena acts, a children’s play area, petting zoo, market and trader stalls and a fantastic selection of foods from across the globe.
The weekend also featured a number of exciting fundraising events including our sponsored Bungee Jump experience where a total of 18 daredevils took the leap from our 150ft crane provided courtesy of Extreme Bungee Sensations. One such jumper was Gavin Maiden who described the experience as ‘exhilarating’ and, along with his co-worker Martin Jeavons from Tile Choice in Bilston, has raised over £1900 for Compton Hospice.
Saturday afternoon also played host to Compton Hospice’s first ever Colour Blast 5K run which saw participants complete three laps of West Park whilst being pelted with various coloured powdered paint. The atmosphere in the park was as colourful as our participants clothing as the 220 strong crowd danced away in our Colour Blast arena. The event was a huge success with a large number of our participants pledging to sign up for next year’s event.
Our Annual 5 Mile Memory Walk and Fun Run, an event which has been running for over 20 years, kick started day two of Compton in the Park 2014 with over 250 walkers, runners and cyclists arriving at West Park dressed in yellow and wearing their memory cards remembering loved ones with pride.
By Sunday afternoon football fever had descended on West Park as the first ever Compton Hospice World Cup Football Tournament kicked off, sponsored by Western Power Distribution. A total of 11
teams, each representing a different country competing in this year’s World Cup, played a total of ten 5-a-side matches as they battled it out to become Compton Cup Champions. In a nail biting final it was Western Power Distribution representing Portugal that took home the Compton World Cup trophy with Punjabi Wolves Supporters representing Argentina coming in a close second.
Compton Hospice would like to give our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported and attended Compton in the Park 2014 and for helping us to raise an estimated £15,500 for the hospice. In particular we wish to thank BBP Security Services, Western Power Distribution, Signal 107, The Milk Bar Podcast, Angel Springs Water Coolers, Cannock Sound Hire, Compton Hospice Trading and Compton Hospice Promotions for their continued support of this event.
Compton in the Park 2015 is scheduled for Sunday 21st June 2015 and will take place at Wolverhampton’s West Park between the hours of 11am and 7pm. Be sure to put the date in your diary and keep checking our website
