is not possible to say where or when failures of the infrastructure requiring maintenance will occur, however, it is likely that maintenance activities would be focused upon the junction pit locations (which would be sensitively located) and therefore the magnitude of any impact would be low and be highly localised. It is unlikely that failures would occur across multiple projects simultaneously and therefore it is considered that cumulative impacts during operation would not be above theminor adverse significance predicted in section 21.6.2.


21.7.3 Potential cumulative impacts during decommissioning 137. Under all scenarios at decommissioning cables buried directly into trenches would be left in-situ. Where cables are installed in ducts it may be possible to remove them, therefore, the worst case would be under Scenario 1, where all three projects are constructed. In this case there would be up to two sets of cables (i.e. those from the proposed East Anglia THREE and East Anglia FOUR projects) which could be removed. The potential impacts would then be similar to the potential impacts for construction of the cable route as outlined for Scenario 1 involving construction of temporary access, and excavation at 61 jointing pit locations (refer to section 21.6.1). The cumulative impact would be no greater than minor adverse.


138. For removal of the converter stations, impact for each would be minor adverse (see section 21.6.1). Given the absence of sensitive geological receptors at this location, cumulative impacts are not considered to be above this however decommissioning is likely phased to further reduce the significance of any potential impacts.
