WE CAN NOW LOOK FORWARD to more than three months of relentless EU referendum campaigning. Already we’ve heard a barrage of opinions masquerading as truths – from both sides of the debate.

No doubt we’ll be evaluating the implications of the vote on June 23 for business travel, but in the meantime we’re looking at issues both farther afield and closer to home. Risk and security is a global arena, and has been widely discussed – at our BBT Forum in Dublin (p18) and the Business Travel Show (p76) – while we have startling risk stats in Databank (p22) and expert advice in our feature on the subject (p86). It’s not that the world is a more dangerous place for business travellers – it’s that the danger is more visible; and today, there’s more technology to help mitigate it. And technology continues to be at the core of change in our

sector, whether it’s predictive shopping (p20), your relationship with your TMC (p56) or the rise of the ‘corporate citizen’ in so-called Managed Travel 3.0 (p72). Business travel reaches well beyond Europe’s borders – and

here we analyse the mixed messages about China’s economy (p42) and visit India’s ‘Start-Up Capital’, Bengaluru (p110). Meanwhile, Amon Cohen shines a stark spotlight on the privacy problems created when your travellers’ data is stored in the US (p38). And both in and out the EU, a visa expert looks at how the weakening of the Schengen Agreement by the migrant crisis, and new US visa restrictions, could impact your road warriors (p113).

So whatever the outcome in June, you will continue to operate in an environment where, as one of our commentators puts it, “the only constant is change”. Apart, of course from one reliable, enduring truth: not a single shovel has yet disturbed the ground to start building that new runway...
