news Rosti decides to split

Injection moulding company Rosti Group says it will be divided into two firms once the legal process is complete in about June. Rosti Automotive will comprise the Automotive division, with has four manufacturing sites in the UK, under Joachim Magnusson.

The Rosti Group will continue business in the packaging, appliances, business machines and life sciences markets under its current CEO, Brendan Colgan. Board chairman Mats Heiman said: “The challenges and opportunities are very

different within the two businesses, so too are the markets and customers they serve. The split will allow both companies to focus on their unique agendas thereby accelerating initiatives to develop their businesses.” ❙ www.rosti.com

PTI offers new preform technology

Plastic Technologies (PTI) of Holland, Ohio, in the US, has added a new injection moulding capability for the prototyping and sampling of preforms. This is said to reduce cost and lead times for both brand owners and converters when launching new concepts. To do this, PTI added Husky’s Adapt tooling

capability to its new all-electric Arburg injection moulding machine. The mould base features a valve-gated hot runner so that one to four cavities/cycle can be moulded, or a single cavity can be built for initial development, then scaled up to four for larger sampling needs. “This multi-cavity preform approach is ideal

for supporting smaller product launches. These quantities are much smaller than those required by nationally-distributed brands which can be upwards of 5 million units,” said Chris White, Supervisor of Injection Moulding Services at PTI. In addition to PET, PP, PE, PLA and other

Victrex and Tri-Mack in JV

Victrex and its long-term collaborator Tri-Mack have formed a joint venture called TxV Aero Composites, with a view to speeding the commercial adoption of polyketone composites in the aerospace sector. It will be based at a purpose-built site in the US, due to be completed this year, and will position itself as “a total solutions provider for polyketone composites, from concept development through commercialisation”. TxV Aero Composites

will offer polyketone composites from custom laminates to pre-formed composite inserts for hybrid moulding processes, plus finished composite parts and complete over-moulded hybrid composite compo- nents and assemblies. These, it is claimed, can make weight savings of up to 60% over metal, as well as much shorter cycle times than thermoset composites. ❙ www.victrex.com

Innovia launches clear IML BOPP film

Innovia Film, a UK-based producer of speciality high performance BOPP films, has launched RayoForm ICU. This is described as an in-mould label film of exceptional clarity, following the trend towards clear containers for greater shelf-impact and enhanced branding. The film was made

using the company’s own bubble process and is currently available in a thickness of 58 micron/230 gauge. Innovia says the bubble pro-

cess has the benefit of giving the film a balanced biaxial orientation and therefore broadly equal mechanical properties in the machine and

transverse directions. According to Innovia,

RayoForm ICU was specifically developed to maximise brand impact by the use of clear containers, while also maxim- ising printing and moulding performance and efficiencies. In print trials, it readily exceeds industry standards for sheets

per hour and offers balanced mechanical properties, enabling sheet-feeding in multiple directions. It is also claimed to increase productiv- ity through faster label handling, enhanced container shape retention and more efficient stacking. ❙ www.innoviafilms.com
