when converting to spare parts production only. Modularity is also a Chinaplas theme for Engel, in

the context of its Inject 4.0 approach to the Industry 4.0 trend, which has received as much attention in China as it has in Europe. “Many of our customers are astounded at just how

easily the entry into digitalisation and networking can become a reality, and at the high degree of benefit already being offered by individual solutions,” says Gero Willmeroth, President Sales and Service at ENGEL Machinery (Shanghai). “Smart factory, step by step – that is the motto.”

Engel is using an E-motion 80 TL machine, moulding logo plaques, to demonstrate the potential of smart machines. The CC300 machine control is capable of simulating process fluctuations; the automatic readjustments by the iQ intelligent assistance systems can then be tracked on the display of the ma- chine. The iQ weight control main- tains consistent injected melt volume throughout the moulding process, and

the iQ clamp control monitors the mould breathing and continuously readjusts the clamping force: their readjustments help prevent rejects, says Engel. It is also showing iQ flow control for the first time in China. Wittmann Battenfeld has its own version of Industry 4.0, which it calls Wittmann 4.0. Embodying this approach at Chinaplas is the company’s new Unilog B8 machine control system, which integrates robots and peripheral appliances along with the injection moulding machine in one control system. Unilog B8, which runs on the Windows 10 IoT

operating system, has a combination of soft keys and gesture command in the SmartScreen interface. On this, two functions can be displayed and operated simultaneously with a split screen, one example being the Easy Start program of parameter setting via the QuickSetup function.

Among the Wittmann Battenfeld displays is an

all-electric machine from the EcoPower Medical series: the SE 110/350 moulding an LDPE closing cap in an 8-cavity mould. It is working in a clean-room production cell, equipped with a Laminar Flow Box supplied by Max Petek.

On a SmartPower 180/525H/210L, a drinking cap made of thermoplastic and LSR will be manufactured with an 8-cavity mould. Wittmann Group’s robots and ancillary equipment will also be shown on the stand, including multi-purpose

linear robots W818 and W828. The W818 model with 6kg payload is particularly suited for moulding machines up to about 200 tonnes clamping force, with tasks ranging from pick and place to production cells with automation modules. All main axes are equipped with motorised servo drives. Similar to the mechanical concept of the smaller W818 robot, the W828 also has a demoulding axis on a fixed horizontal profile. On both robots, the control cabinet is integrated. Boy will present three of its injection moulding machines at the German joint stand in Hall 5.1. A hydraulic Boy 25 E with energy- efficient servo drive has a footprint of only 1.8 m² but offers sufficient space with the free-standing clamping unit for larger moulds. With the use of high speed pistons and a hydraulic pump with a 10% higher delivery volume, the Boy 25 E is able to achieve a significant increase in drive speeds, an improved dynamic and a shorter dry cycle time. The new Boy XXS is a table-top

machine with 6 tonnes clamping force. Available screw diameters between 8 and 18mm offer plasticising volumes from 0.06 up to 10.2 cm³. A Boy XS with 10 tonnes clamping force complements Boy’s presence at Chinaplas.

products for the first time at this year’s Chinaplas. Flex is the latest product in the company’s portfolio. This is a bendable tubular heater intended mainly for use in hot runner systems. The company says Flex “is a robust heater with excellent thermal properties, which can freely be bent by hand”. It is available in numerous diameters and cross sections. Among the hot runner manufacturers exhibiting at Chinaplas, Synventive, part of Barnes Group, will feature its Plug’n Play hot runner systems with threaded nozzles for various shot weights. Customized and delivered fully pre-assembled they offer zero leakage, uniform temperature profile, energy efficiency and easy servicing, according to Synventive. The company is also presenting its new SVG+ hot runner systems for sequential moulding of
