Chinaplas 2017 | event preview The 31st Chinaplas exhibition in May will focus on more advanced
technology. Injection moulding exhibitors covered in this preview are promoting electric machines, modularity and Industry 4.0
Chinaplas turns to technology
The slowdown in growth of China’s economy, and the attendant effect on plastics consumption, seems to have had little effect on Chinaplas, the country’s major industry exhibition. The Chinaplas 2016 event held in Shanghai was a packed event and the show organising company Adsale Exhibition Services is hoping for a repeat this year. The exhibition rotates venue between Shanghai and Guangzhou, where it is taking place this year. The number of visitors to Chinaplas 2016 was 148,575 – a record number. Compared to the previous time it was held in Shanghai in 2014, the number of visitors in 2016 was 14% higher, and compared to Chinaplas 2015 in Guangzhou, the increase was 16%. The 2016 show covered an exhibition area of over 240,000 m² and had 3,335 exhibitors from 39 countries and regions. Adsale is expecting Chinaplas 2017 in Guangzhou to set a new record in terms of its scale by reaching 250,000 m² of exhibition area, with exhibitor numbers likely to exceed 3,300. The continuing growth of Chinaplas has led to the
decision to relocate to a new venue in Shanghai in 2018, the National Exhibition and Convention Centre. As well as expanding its size, the organiser is also
developing Chinaplas as a more technology-oriented show with a focus in 2017 on key topics of Intelligent

Manufacturing, High-tech Materials and Green Solutions. “At Chinaplas 2016, there were more than 40 kinds of
ground-breaking technologies which were newly launched either in the world or Asia, and we were very happy to see that happen,” says Ada Leung, General Manager at Adsale. “It implied that exhibitors recog- nized Chinaplas as an important platform for the release of new technology.” To facilitate technical discussions, Chinaplas 2017
will have a number of conferences around the halls. Tech Talk is a conference which covers a wide range of technical areas, but other events have more narrow themes, including medical plastics and product design. A conference on Industry 4.0 is being jointly organ- ised with VDMA, the German organisation representing plastics machinery suppliers. The conference will consider the impact of Industry 4.0.
