special feature of its larger machines. The design enables quick and easy start-ups and ensures improved temperature control across the die face. Besides underwater and air pelletizing systems,
Econ’s product range includes pellet drying systems, screen-changers, and pyrolysis furnaces for the gentle cleaning of tools that are contaminated with plastic residues. ❙

Century Extrusion is unveiling a new 26-mm extruder described as a cost-effective and feature-rich model for laboratory use and small-scale production, typically of masterbatch. It features slide-mounted side feeders that can be easily disconnected, moved along the extruder, and then reconnected during a barrel reconfiguration. The complete drive section (motor, clutch and gearbox) is also slide mounted, in order to reduce engineering time to reconfigure the machine. Century says that the machine is supplied “ready to run” and boasts a very robust construction for continu- ous production demands. Also on show on the company’s booth at NPE is a
70-mm version of its new CXE-HO series of high-torque machines with a nominal torque density of 18 Nm/cm3
.

It is being displayed alongside another new Century machine – the 105-mm high-torque extruder which is capable of processing 15,000 lbs/hour. Both of these new machines are covered in more detail in the twin-screw extruder feature in this issue. Century is also highlighting its full range of replace- ment parts, including screws, barrels and shafts for 30 different brands of twin-screw extruders. It offers more than 65 materials of construction to handle the most demanding applications. ❙

Econ Inc, the US-subsidiary of the Austrian manufacturer of pelletizing systems, is making its debut at NPE 2015. It is running live demonstra- tions of the EUP 10 underwater pelletizer in combination with a Brabender lab extruder. The EUP 10 is the smallest of Econ’s underwater
pelletizing systems, handling throughputs from less than 1 kg/hour up to 30 kg/hour. It boasts the com- pany’s thermal insulation technology which is a

Kreyenborg Plant Technology (which is now separated from the Kreyenborg screen-changer business acquired by Nordson) is using NPE to highlight its infra-red dryer (IRD) technology for the energy-efficient crystallisation and drying of recycled PET. The technology is also being used for other drying and pre-heating applications including cross-linked PE compounds, hot-melt coating and drying of PVC flooring ingredients. The smaller IR Batch machine can be used for the
crystallization of PET masterbatches. It can efficiently handle batches from 10-400 kg, making it particularly suitable for the processing of masterbatches with regular colour changes and for handling other special products, including bioplastics. ❙
