Qtek is promoting its innovative copper-based antimicrobial technologies in the StartUp Garage, a new feature at NPE for newly formed companies. Its copper-based mineral additive and copper-based antimicrobial masterbatches use patent-pending technologies developed in conjunction with Michigan Technological University and MTEC SmartZone. The technology uses ionic copper as its antimicrobial
active agent and combines it with a natural mineral powder to store and deliver the copper to common touch surfaces. This restricts the reproduction of microbes on the surface of the plastic. ❙

Struktol is expanding its range of additives for improving the performance and processability of recycled plastics. They can be used in a variety of different resin systems from polyolefins to engineered plastics, and with a range of recycled content levels up to 100% post-consumer or post-industrial material. For engineering plastics, Struktol offers two new

products that combine a compatibilizer with lubri- cants to assist in the incorporation of mineral or glass fillers. They improve mixing and flow properties as well as mould release. These products result in better processing, improved surface quality, and in some cases, better physical properties. Struktol TR 229 is for use in both PC and PC/ABS blends as well as PA 6 and 6,6
low odour and volatiles for automotive applications. Struktol is also highlighting RP 17, a combination
lubricant and odour neutralizing mask, and TR 052, a compatibilizer and blending aid that assists the incorporation of regrind/recycled product in a wide range of polymers. ❙

Superior Graphite is featuring its resilient graphitic carbon (RGC), which is produced using its proprietary electro-thermal purification process to create an extremely pure form of carbon that offers high resil- iency. RGC particles have a very specific morphology and high porosity, providing a very high contact surface to polymer matrices. They can improve the tribological proper- ties of engineering plastics in automotive applications. RGC can be used in anti-
friction coatings for piston skirts and can reduce wear in dumped flywheel clutches. RGC also improves friction reduction and
compounds. It
can be used in FDA-approved applications. Struktol TR 219 is designed for PA 6 and 6,6 compounds, plus it has also been found to be effective in PET and PBT com- pounds, especially recycled or recyclate-containing applications or in cases where the polyester compound is contaminated with other plastics. Struktol has also announced new additives for
recycled PP. Struktol RP 11 is a lubricant package that provides a combination of viscosity reduction and mould release characteristics. Loading levels as low as 0.2% result in increased melt flow and allow for significant improvements in mould filling and release. It permits greater use of regrind or recycled content material without sacrificing certain properties or performance. Another recent addition, Struktol RP 06 provides similar viscosity modification and mould release combined with

Techmer PM is showcasing its Techsurf melt additive technology for imparting hydrophilicity to polyolefin fibres, nonwoven fabrics, and specialty plastic applications, increasing their absorption capacity. The additives can be used in a wide range of applications from diapers, wipes and feminine care products, through to filtration systems, battery separators and medical tubing applications. They also help to reduce the surface resistance of the finished fabric and improve softness, plus they are non-cytotoxic and have been FDA approved.
