Twin-screw extruders | machinery feature
cooling with a special gearbox design. The extruder is powered by a 600-kW water-cooled,
brushless AC motor. Just like JSW, Leistritz points out that water-cooled motors are quieter (they have no blower). They are also smaller and totally sealed, so powder contamination is not a concern. The absence of a blower exhaust is particularly benefi cial for plant cleanliness when fi ne fi ller materials are being processed, the company notes.
Direct benefi ts Leistritz is also featuring a ZSE-27 Maxx twin-screw extruder as part of a “direct to sheet” system for rapid in-line compounding and production of prototype sheet samples. This system features PLC distributive processing control architecture. Here, sub-processes are controlled by a discrete PLC, and a master-PLC is used to manage the overall system and consolidate recipe management and data acquisition. “This is particularly important when integrating systems from multiple suppliers with distinctly different technolo- gies,” says Leistritz.
The ZSE-27 Maxx twin-screw extruder system and
KraussMaffei Berstorff describes its ZE BluePower twin-screw extruder as “future-proof”
downstream lamination system each have their own PLC and HMI interface. These two systems can operate independently or together via an Ethernet communica- tions link to allow fully integrated system sharing of recipe, data acquisition and logic/alarming. The PLC also features a pressure control algorithm.
