exhibition review | Chinaplas 2016

for 2016 is decidedly positive for us,” said Edi Degasp- eri, CEO of Radici Plastics (Suzhou). ” We are expecting a 20% increase in sales volume compared to the past year, and the auto sector is going to be the driving force of our growth and new developments.” Degasperi said the company only completed the installation of its third line at the site in October of last year. The fourth line will add a further 5,000 tonnes capacity. ❙ www.radicigroup.com

project was indicative of a trend to more sophisticated, higher performance plastics production solutions among leading Chinese companies. “We are seeing this quite strongly now. They have to move upmarket as there’s always a small guy that’s going to be cheaper,” he said. The trend is expected to intensify as more Chinese

producers turn their attention from local to interna- tional customers. “We compete in China because the bigger Chinese customers are putting plants elsewhere in the world. It’s about more than just supplying machinery – it’s the totality of our experience,” he said. Keane said Nordson was also using Chinaplas to

show the efforts it has made in positioning its individual acquisitions – including Extrusion Dies Inc, Xaloy, BKG and Kreyenborg – as a global business under the Nordson Polymer Processing Systems name. He said the focus is now on operational effectiveness. “All were either PE or privately-owned so were in

general under-invested. We are upgrading machining technology and also standardising it so a screw made in the US, for example, can be made just the same in Europe or Asia,” he explained. “We want to build local teams that can solve 80% of problems locally.” Keane said the company plans to spend up to $1.5m

to enhance its local capabilities in China over the next 12 months or so. It has already added some die manufacturing capabilities at the EDI rebuild operation near Shanghai; future plans include adding coating and pelletizing activities. ❙ www.nordsonpolymerprocessing.com

Polyamide resin supplier Solvay Engineering Plastics said it is to set up an application test laboratory at Shanghai to support customers developing new products using its Technyl resins. Intended to begin operation at the end of the year, the Application Performance Testing (APT) centre will be the company’s first outside of Europe and will support customers in China and the wider Asian region. “This significant investment complements our

state-of-the-art capabilities in Europe, enabling Solvay’s team to closely support Asian customers, who represent more than 40% of our business activity,” said Peter Browning, General Manager for Solvay Engineer- ing Plastics. ❙ www.solvay.com

Xinda Corporation used the show to promote its recently-developed SKW series four-flight co-kneader extruder, which is claimed to provide improved mixing over similar-sized SJW series three-flight designs with a lower level of heat generation and reduced energy consumption. Xinda Compounding VP Kedan Du said the new model is especially suitable for cable com- pound applications such as XLPE, HFFR and semi- conductive materials and for high filler content masterbatch production. ❙ www.xindacorp.com
