synthetic fi bres sector, particularly the premium end of the market where dispersion of colours and additives is critical. However, Americhem is also seeing strong growth in premium engineering compounds and concentrates in China as it integrates its recent acquisitions. “If you look at the portfolio – the acquisitions of

Infi nity, then LTL and now Vi-Chem – clearly we were looking to add capacity but they fi t well with our position in the concentrate business – a premium product driven by quality,” said Americhem President John Deignan. He said the profi le of the company’s Chinese

customer base has also changed considerably over the past decade, in part due to this new technology mix. While initially focused almost exclusively on interna- tional customers, local customers now make up around half of its business with the top three growth markets now medical, automotive and transportation. Last year, Americhem moved LTL’s existing manu-

facturing presence in China into its Suzhou facility. It is now integrating production of some of the legacy Infi nity products and the acquisition earlier this year of Vi-Chem will see production of TPEs added to the

Suzhou slate. “One of the advantages of Vi-Chem coming together with Americhem is that they did not have much of a commercial presence outside of the US,” said Deignan, who added the company is working hard to identify additional cross-selling opportunities. Being able to offer a localised service anywhere in

the world is also a key element in Americhem’s business strategy. “With our global customers the expectation is that we can service them with any technology in any region,” Deignan said.  www.americhem.com
