Aloha Medicals started out life in 1999 when it was founded by its current president John Holliday in Hawaii – hence the name. In 2002 the company relocated to California, and has been based since 2007 in a new location in Carson City. Aloha holds every type of certification imaginable in the fields of pharmaceuticals and mushrooms. Its products are dispatched all over the globe in the form of capsules and pow- ders aimed at keeping humans sound in mind and body.
The production process is comparable to
spawn production, whereby a mother culture is used to create an colonised medium which is then ground to a fine powder. The art is in finally achieving as much mycelium of the strain concerned as possible, and as little of the carrier. After the mycelium has developed it is dried and then ground into a powder used to fill capsules. During our tour we were amazed at the hygiene standards in the plant. We have never seen such sterile working conditions as here! An absolute necessity of course, as the products being worked with here ulti- mately end up in medicinal products. After a lesson on all the health-benefi- cial aspects of mushrooms, and gifted with a book and an armful of folders, we departed to our hotel in Lake Tahoe. As the gaming regulations in Nevada are different to those in California, two floors of our hotel were reserved for roulette, blackjack and other casino games. Suffice to say that a few mem- bers of our party tried their luck and won back part of their travelling ex- penses!
