on the Maesbury Road Industrial Estate in 2011. After working in the Newtown store since 2002, Claire made the move to the Oswestry store whilst Joe remains to oversee the one in Newtown.
It is clear from the way Joe speaks about his wife, that he has no doubts that the showroom is left in very capable hands.
Joe said: “Claire has an impeccable eye for design and everyone says that they are surprised she has not got her own TV show as her ideas are fabulous and customer service is second to none.
“The showroom is organised and everyone who comes through the door feels welcome.”
Headed by Joe and Claire, each store has a team of six fully- trained staff, as well as sub-contracted fitters who are all Trust Mark registered.
Joe placed a great emphasis on the importance of having fully-trained staff, saying: “We keep our staff trained up on a monthly basis with any courses we feel will help us gain more exposure.
“Our designers have years of experience in designing your dream kitchen or bathroom with the use of the latest state of the art 3D cad software.
“Having a fully-trained team gives customers the confidence that their finished job will be absolutely perfect.”
Joe admitted that he takes his wife’s full advice when it comes to which products to display in store and how to display them.
“I feel as much lighting as possible is crucial when displaying products as it’s the power of attraction,” continued Joe.
The showroom is separated into different sections to segregate products, making the shopping experience simple and easy for the customer. The company also ensures that window displays are changed regularly to keep up with the latest trends and draw in customers. Joe explained that they invest a lot into their displays as point-of-sale (POS) is vital to the business.
Keeping up with trends via trade shows and through the media allows Joe and Claire to decide what products to stock and, as Joe explained, they will discontinue a product at the earliest opportunity if they notice that it isn’t selling very well.
After speaking to Joe, it is clear that the customer experience is at the heart of the business.
“We always ask the customer for their input as it’s their home we are transforming.We aim to offer a great customer service which is what customers really want and expect. We go that extra mile to ensure that customers get their wishes,” concluded Joe.

In 2016, Joe and Claire Varley put their experience and skills to good use when they set out on renovating a 200-year-old cottage.
“In June of last year, we saw the cottage just by luck when glancing in the window of a local estate agent and immediately fell in love with it,” explained Joe.
The couple wasted no time in getting started on their very own grand design, moving into the property in August and beginning renovation work.
Keen to put their own stamp on the house, Joe and Claire completely revamped the downstairs of the building, fitting a new kitchen and utility with brand new appliances.
The floors were then retiled, fixed with Norcros Rapidset Porcelain Adhesive Grey, and Warmup undertile heaters with 4ie Stats were installed under most of the downstairs flooring, accompanied by Norcros 6mm Insulation Boards. Norcros Pro 50 Levelling Compound was used for covering the heater cable before tiling.
“Our tiler Keith Dorel, who is an expert in all types of ceramic, porcelain and natural stone products, did all the work using our ideas and designs,” continued Joe.
The floor tiles used in the kitchen, utility, dining room and snug were all from the Porcelanosa Ascot Wood Range; whereas the ones used in the entrance hallway were from Porcelanosa’s Dover Antique. For all tiled areas, Mapei Ultracolour Grouts were used.
