TOMORROW’S FM AWARDS 2015
WINTER GRITTING & SNOW
CLEARANCE DE-ICE
De-Ice provides nationwide winter gritting and snow clearance services to businesses, hospitals, schools and retail outlets.
The company partners with its customers, designing winter maintenance programmes to reduce the risks posed by adverse weather conditions. This collaborative approach leads to less risks for staff, customers and suppliers.
Each contract is designed with the specific client in mind – one size does not fit all. Every site will have its own issues, so De-Ice has developed a bespoke technology system which monitors the weather and triggers service delivery alerts. The system then tracks operatives through their PDAs, to gauge whether service delivery has taken place. In the event of a possible claim, De-Ice customers can rely on the audit trail in order to prove that an area was serviced and that there is evidence of a visit.
Customer service is at the heart of the business. The company is available 24/7, and De-Ice strives to have a right first time policy; the service window is short and customers need to guarantee their sites have been gritted to the highest standards during treacherous conditions.
WINTER MAINTENANCE GRITIT
GRITIT provides a service to public and private sector companies, going onto their sites to grit car parks, entrances and footpaths automatically when the daily forecast for road surface temperatures falls to, or below, 0˚C. Snow clearance services are triggered when 5cm or more of snow is expected to fall in the period between 12am and 6am.
The company’s flagship NIMBUS technology monitors detailed weather files from an expert provider against live tracking vehicles and teams, and verifies service by cross referencing the report and location data from each driver’s PDA, to ensure they are on the correct site at the correct time. The fully automated management system has the flexibility to provide bespoke solutions on, for example, unmanned sites where a leak or burst pipes can pose an unexpected risk.
As well as allowing businesses to continue running in the winter’s worst conditions, the technology means that FMs have a robust scientific and systematic winter risk management system in place, rather than one based on ad hoc decision, and evidence to back up claims that they have met their duty of care. This is particularly useful in terms of winter-related injuries, as it can prove vital evidence in a court of law for clients whose employees may have had an accident onsite.
