LEISURE & HOSPITALITY

barriers to create a separate sponsor and VIP area, showing that even the biggest venues can benefit. Many venues do not come equipped for large scale events and we’ve provided our turnstiles, barriers and gates to venues throughout the world. Take Kings Day in the Netherlands, with thousands of people on the city’s streets, our primary aim was to work with the event planners in each area to design and install crowd barriers to create safe viewing and event spaces. This now means that whatever your venue, whether it’s an existing structure or a greenfield site, you can adapt it to ensure it’s fully equipped to house your event.

awards ceremony, stadium tour or high profile guests, barriers are pivotal in transforming the venue to ensure event areas not normally containing crowds, such as football pitches or car parks, can be made safe. Barriers allow you to adapt your venue to create crowd pens, backstage areas or separate VIP sections to ensure guests and artists are kept secure. This is something we saw at the G20, where our High Fence was used to ensure heads of state, including Barack Obama, were kept safe. Organisers needed a barrier that could withstand attacks but did not obscure views for security and military teams, so we specifically designed and installed 2km of this product across the city.

The Australian military put the High Fence through vigorous testing against sledgehammers, chainsaws, guns and explosions, to monitor and assess its stability and reliability. It stood the test, proving itself to be extremely strong and it is therefore the ideal solution for events and occasions where crowd and structure segregation is an integral part of the crowd management process.

Events such as the NFL at Wembley Stadium required us to use our

However, we’re more than just a barrier provider – we work together with the client to ensure the safest possible configuration. Many organisers may not be aware but the ground conditions can have a vital impact on the performance of your safety barriers. Another of our recent product additions was the Gatekeeper; this temporary turnstile is quick to install and can count people in and out of an area. The units can be easily fitted to include scanners to read tickets or RFID.

We work with Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) to analyse crowd flow and dynamics, which allows us to ensure wherever a barrier is installed, it offers maximum protection. This led to the development of our ‘Barrier Load Monitoring System’ (BLMS), which is a barrier system complete with integrated sensors. These sensors measure real-time crowd pressure. We also worked closely with our

clients to analyse crowd behaviour and work out the optimum barrier layout for crowd and artist safety.

Over the years, tragic incidents have shocked the industry into placing an increased importance on the safety barriers they choose, however there is still work to do at events and venues across the globe. Ensuring you have a great barrier is only part of the process alongside the wider science of crowd dynamics in the variety of live event scenarios which need to be considered. Safety is a priority for all live events and the research we’ve undertaken with BNU is certainly a big stride in the right direction.

We started off pure rock and roll, but now our products can be seen at different event genres throughout the world. As we continue our work within the music industry, this year we’re also focussing on the security industry and we see huge potential for our ‘High Fence’ within this sector. From sporting venues, airports, city security to ensuring the safety of high profile guests, the High Fence has so many benefits.

Mojo has expanded considerably in the last 25 years, opening its UK (London) office in 1998, USA (Colorado Springs) in 2003 and Australia (Sydney) in 2012. We also have a network of international distributors in countries including New Zealand, Finland, Norway, Denmark, France, Spain and Japan, allowing us to increase our global reach. This means we can store our products in an array of different countries and so wherever you’re based, one of our offices will be able to provide you with the support, advice and products you may need.

Our team has vast experience in providing crowd safety solutions at all manner of events, from providing security for heads of state at the G20 summit to providing crowd control at the London 2012 Olympics, our barriers really are everywhere. The reason? Barriers are more than simply a commodity; the design and science behind these can literally make or break an event when it comes to safety.
