Dave Watson, Head of Facilities, Medical Protection Society (MPS) has recently overhauled the company’s Health and Safety regime, with much work and comprehensive training the business now has a fully- integrated protection process for staff. He gives his expertise on how you can do the same for your facility.


I think it’s fair to say that Health and Safety and Facilities run in tandem in most organisations and it is the ideal area to focus on safety because we know what is planned to happen, where and when and in most cases what the risks are. This is key because in large organisations things can easily be missed if you don’t have the correct policies, processes

and controls in place to ensure that planned preventative or reactive maintenance is conducted in a safe and controlled way with as much risk as possible being eliminated or mitigated.

take too long to understand why the


company had hired me. The business was in a period of growth that has realised a staff increase of c.150 in my first year and the property portfolio had increased by just fewer than 50%.
