LEISURE & HOSPITALITY

In recent years, flooring has become a key priority when it comes to thinking about refurbishment or new build commercial projects and it is finally demanding the attention it deserves as the heart of facilities design.

Part of this change in mindset has occurred because of the evolution in flooring options; no longer does the specifier have to choose between just carpet, stone or wood, now they have a vast array of options. And, with the introduction and ongoing development of luxury vinyl titles, (LVT), it is clear to see why the floor is making a stir in the hospitality and leisure world.

With guarantees to ensure product longevity, should a tile get significantly damaged or worn, it can be isolated and replaced individually so it looks as striking as the day it was first fitted.

Another key choice when considering leisure interiors is the acoustics. It is vital to select a floorcovering product that can minimise noise disruption. With Amtico Signature this isn’t a problem as the outer wear layer can help keep the atmosphere quiet even in the most bustling of locations.

Away from the functionality of the products, the creativity and innovative design is another reason LVT stands out. The dedicated Amtico design team travel the world and look to other industries such as fashion for inspiration, proving that the floor you lay will be a perfect blend of style and practically.

In fact, LVT is blazing a trail that its counterparts can’t keep up with. Combining true-to-life replications of natural materials with unbeatable durability, installation and maintenance characteristics, this is the product of choice for many commercial environments.

For over 50 years, Amtico has been at the forefront of the LVT flooring movement with their expertise and they are now seeing a rise in the number of installations taking place in the leisure and hospitality sector. The reason for this is that their Amtico Signature collection is perfect for this situation.

Considering its products from how they are conceived and composed through to how they are laid and maintained, Amtico Signature blends practicality with design impact.

Those selecting Amtico can also rest assured on the durability of the product as the collection goes through rigorous testing, proving it can withstand spills and scuffs, high footfall and general wear and tear from such demanding environments.

What is more, Amtico’s Signature products can be cut and combined in infinite ways and installed with ease, meaning the design possibilities are endless, something that is imperative for facilities managers who want to achieve a unique look and make their business stand out from the crowd, leaving a lasting impression on customers. The bespoke nature of the Signature collection, for instance, means that a truly unique floor concept can be created and realised and custom features, such as logos, can also be designed to really leave a mark on visitors.

BUTLINS’ FIREHOUSE

FAMILY RESTAURANT Much loved British holiday camp, Butlins, recently undertook a refurbishment programme at their Skegness resort, with a new addition to their original site in the form of a new concept restaurant, Firehouse.

It was clear from the giant hen hanging outside with fiery feathers that this new attraction served flame roasted chicken, but once inside, customers entered a distinct and unique Butlins experience. London-based brand design agency, Mystery, was tasked with creating a contemporary, fun interior with a traditional barn-style building.

“Being a family restaurant, the flooring needed to accommodate a high volume of foot traffic and buggies, as well as a lot of abuse from excitable children. We approached Amtico as we were looking for a vinyl solution that would be easy to clean, hard wearing and affordable.

“I was sceptical that we would be able to achieve our chevron floor pattern in a vinyl but Amtico were able to produce the exact pattern that we were after. Their range is really broad and we were able to find the colours we were looking for. In short, we were sold.”

Sarah Mannering, Senior Designer said: “Though the interior has a more modern style, we wanted to create an atmosphere that still felt authentic, relaxed and sympathetic to a farm-style environment, with plenty of natural finishes and interesting details.

“For that reason we felt from an early stage that we wanted to use a mixture of timbers on the floor, with a flash of the warm, succulent orange, so we chose the Sevilla tile to complement the interior fittings. We were also keen to use a chevron pattern to introduce a secondary level of interest and create a subtle nod to traditional parquet flooring.
