NEWS Leeds Showcase Highlights Healthcare Innovations
Healthcare professionals from across the north of England learned about the latest innovations and industry trends at a recent showcase event in Leeds organised by Diversey Care. A team of product, application and sector specialists met more than 30 guests during the day and were able to discuss their particular requirements.
The invited guests attending the event included housekeeping, hotel services and infection prevention leaders from some of the biggest NHS trusts and long-term care providers in the region. Innovations on show included the new TASKI Swingo XP machines, Sporicide Plus, TASKI Quantum, and SmartDose.

The keynote presentation was given by Michelle Davis from Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, who explained more about the latest NHS cleaning standards framework. With 25 years’ experience Michelle was the 2013 winner of the AHCP’s President’s Award. This insight from the front line helped the guests, and Diversey Care’s own team, to understand more about how the ongoing challenges are likely to affect the industry.
Diversey Care is planning further healthcare showcase events in 2015.
Presentations included an introduction to the new Vericlean service with input from Oonagh Boon, Hotel & Catering Manager at Belong, a major regional long-term care provider which is the first UK customer. Belong’s award-winning villages are based on a household and apartment living concept, providing vibrant communities for older people and the local community in which they serve. Guests heard how Vericlean helps users to audit their cleaning processes, introduce new standards,

www.diversey.com Shadow Chancellor Claims Cleaning Expenses Without Receipts
Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls and 11 other shadow cabinet members have been claiming expenses for cleaning, alongside gardening and other odd jobs, without submitting receipts.
This seriously undermines Mr Balls’ advice that we should all insist on invoices for cash-in-hand jobs.
Mr Balls claimed more than £1,600 for cleaners, while his wife Yvette Cooper claimed a further £2,640 for cleaning and gardening. This comes out of a total of £37,881 claimed by the 12 Labour MPs.
And yet, despite Mr Balls’ insistence last month that he had obtained

receipts for every single cash payment since he entered politics 21 years ago, he did not submit a single receipt for the work done.
He had said that someone who “cuts your hedge for a tenner” should provide an invoice, in order to discourage tax avoidance, adding that he had the “name and address and a receipt” for every cash transaction, claiming that it was “the right thing to do”.
This discovery has led to ridicule from the opposition, a source from the Conservative Party said: “Ed Balls needs to clean up his act on his own expenses before lecturing others.
If he can’t even manage his own finances, how can he expect anyone to trust him with the nation’s coffers?”
Pontefract Window Cleaning Services, the company who clean the windows of Mr Balls’ Castleford home, added that they have never been asked for a receipt in the 17 years they have been cleaning his house.
However, a spokesman for Mr Balls defended his cleaning claims, saying: “Ed’s cleaner was and continues to be employed on PAYE and paid by bank transfer. These claims were made fully in accordance with the Fees Office Rules.”
