EUniting Across The Continent

EUnited Cleaning, with the support of the European Federation of Cleaning Industries (EFCI) and the International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance Products (A.I.S.E), is launching a new campaign, called the European Cleaning Days (ECD), aiming to highlighting the importance and the benefits of professional cleaning in places like offices, hospitals, airports and train stations.

Beginning in May this year, the mission of the ECD is to combine the existing cleaning events, as well as organising new ones to educate the public about the importance of professional cleaning for public health, comfort and well-being.

Events will be held in countries

across Europe, including Germany, Belgium, France and Italy, and will aim at involving people of various age groups and professions. The activities will range from exhibitions, workshops and visits to schools with lectures, to cleaning in action on public streets and squares.

The campaign in particular focuses on cleaning contractors, detergents for cleaning and disinfection, floor and high pressure cleaning in buildings, business premises and production sites, and municipal equipment, such as mobile machines used in municipalities and other public areas.

Further US Boost For Laundry System Developer Xeros

Commercial laundry system developer Xeros has announced that six more US utility companies are offering customers financial incentives to adopt its technology.

The news is another significant boost to prospects in the US market for Xeros which is based at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

Xeros machines involve the use of water being largely replaced by fully re-usable and recyclable nylon polymer beads. Customers include hotels, commercial and industrial laundries, dry cleaners, spas and fitness centres

Columbia Gas of Massachusetts, Connecticut Natural Gas, PG&E, Questar Gas, Southwest Gas, and Xcel Energy have brought the number of utility companies offering inducements for securing the energy savings Xeros systems provide to eight.

US utility companies previously offering financial rewards to Xeros customers were National Grid

and Liberty Utilities. The eight organisations on board offer a combined total of more than $275,000 in customer incentives for using the company’s technology.

The inducements are part of an initiative under the Federal Energy Management Program’s Energy Incentive Program, which rewards users of cleaning technologies meeting specific, pre-determined energy saving milestones.

Xeros Chief Executive Officer Bill Westwater said: “Traditional commercial laundry machines use a tremendous amount of energy to heat a large quantity of water. By using beads, made from a special stain-absorbing polymer as the active ingredient for cleaning fabrics, and washing at lower temperatures, our systems dramatically reduce the amount of water used and natural gas consumed.

“US utility companies are seeking proactive strategies that help them and their customers save energy, reduce environmental impact and control costs.

Our systems provide proven financial savings and energy conservation, as evidenced by the tremendous growth in the Xeros Utility Incentive Program, positive response from customers and accelerating adoption rate.”

Xeros polymer beads gently agitate stains and soil away from textile surfaces easily, keeping laundry looking and feeling newer for longer. This is especially the case with coloured materials, which fade much less over time, thereby delivering reduced replacement costs and consistent branding “look and feel”.

The company says users also do not have to separate most colours, as the beads absorb stray dyes, and have noticed laundered items smell fresher than when washed in conventional machines.

The polymer beads can also be used for hundreds of washes, without losing their effectiveness, before going back into the supply chain and being recycled into items, such as car dashboards.
