Keeping Your WSMA Membership Strong Anne Proescholdt, WSMA Program Associate – Member Services

Bodies depend on a wide network of parts that share responsibility for optimal opera- tion. Our own Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) body is dependent upon several coordinated parts to stay healthy and strong, “MusicStrong.”

At the WSMA office, we maintain that member schools are our “lifeblood,” delivering nutrients to realize and sustain the mission we share. We rely on member schools to rely on our good health and that of our sister parts, Wisconsin Music Edu- cators Association (WMEA), Wisconsin Foundation for School Music (WFSM), and many other partners and supporters, to keep going strong.

WSMA and its members stay in shape by seeking to understand how and with what effectiveness our body functions and acting accordingly. Open lines of communication are fundamental to

this understanding, while membership- strengthening exercises keep us on top of our collective game.

What is WSMA Member Services? WSMA is committed to monitoring mem- ber school vitals and providing responsive, holistic care. To ensure member schools receive recommended doses of support from WSMA, two program associate positions were stitched together one year ago to form a post dedicated to member services.

My role is something of a ligament: WSMA’s direct connection to and re- source for member schools. I process, maintain and answer questions about member records, enrollments, registra- tions and awards orders, but it is also my job to maintain and grow our symbiotic

relationships and help form the philosophy and future of our services.

Member services are not limited to one person or department – they must inform everything we do. Our members can expect positivity, devotion and qual- ity in their interactions with everyone at WSMA.

But we cannot provide great service with- out member school feedback. Though it may sometimes feel as if there are literal or figurative barriers between us, we must recall the cell wall: a permeable bar- rier allowing the exchange of invaluable information and resources. Questions, concerns, suggestions and validation all help WSMA better serve the needs of our member schools. We are here to hear from you, and we want to.

Thank you to the entire WSMA family for your kind reception and patience as we learn more about each other. In the interest of information exchange, I want to share what motivates me to care for our WSMA body.

Who is Anne Proescholdt?

What I find most compelling about music is its capacity to heal. Through melodies, harmonies, rhythms and lyrics, or the people it brings into our lives, music stands ready to lend TLC. When I was a student, I felt the most loved by the people of the band room. It was a safe space, a place to celebrate the evolution of emo- tions to art.
