More Ideas for Enhancing Learning Within the Classroom Stacy Juhl (Hortonvile Middle School) had this to say: “One of my new favorite apps is ‘AirScanner.’ Your phone and your computer have to be on the same network. Open a browser window, open the app, and then type in the IP address as prompted. Voilà! Whatever is pictured in your camera lens appears in your browser – and on your Smart Board if your com- puter is hooked up to one. You can freeze the image as well so you can continue to walk around the room while discussing the image. I’ve been using it when we do writ- ten work in class (rhythm counting, note- naming, etc.). I can project the student’s answer(s) and then ask other members of the class to agree with the answer(s) or correct the mistake(s). It keeps all the students involved in the activity because no one knows whose work I’m going to snap a picture of next!”
If you use the Essential Elements method books with your students, are you aware of the “Essential Elements Interactive” component? Terry Little (Elmbrook, Brookfield) uses it with students to per- sonalize instruction and show evidence of growth. Information about “Essential Elements Interactive” can be found here:
www.essentialelementsinteractive.com (It should be noted that other method books have similar materials available for teach- ers and students online).

While many of the programs and apps listed in this article are platform-specific (i.e. Apple only), it should be noted that more and more programmers are creating similar apps that work on other platforms or cross-platform. If you look, and a par- ticular app isn’t available for the device you use, check to see if there is something similar available – there probably is!
I hope this article sparked an idea or two of how you can make classroom technol- ogy work for you and for the students you teach, and not to just simply exist unauthentically. The students we teach are already light years ahead of us in the applications of technology. The more
