Music Business Seminar for Teachers and Students

On November 19 members of the music community will come together for a music business seminar sponsored by Wisconsin School Music Association in collaboration with Full Com- pass in Middleton. This event is designed for teachers and young musicians statewide by providing practical and useful information and allowing all to interact with professionals in the music business. Sessions will include songwriting/ composition, auditioning, the use of social media, legal is- sues for musicians, hearing care, networking, recording and much more.

At the conclusion of last year’s event there was a general con- sensus by participants that this type of gathering was greatly successful and rewarding because attendees learned from each other as well as from people in the music business in Wiscon- sin and nationally. This year’s offering will be even bigger and better and the cost to participants is absolutely free!

x WSMA World Café Showcase

Students had the opportunity this summer to perform as part of the 2016 Wisconsin State Fair on the World Café Stage for an appreciative audience. In partnership with the Wisconsin State Fair, WSMA hosted this showcase, providing students with an educational experience as well as an opportunity to have some fun at the fair.

On August 12 several groups performed on the World Café Stage. Groups included the Winneconne High School Polka Band (David Jerabek – director); Delevan-Darien String Ensemble (Jennifer Bayerl – director); New Glarus Ethnic Ensemble (Heinz Mattmann – director); Steel Strings (Folk group from Delafield); Andrew Yaun (solo performer from Monticello) and finally Ukulele Wednesday (Folk/Rock group from Madison).

Plans are underway for the World Café Music Showcase (August 11) as part of the 2017 Wisconsin State Fair. Please contact WSMA if interested in performing as part of the WSMA World Café Showcase.
