Wisconsin Truly Is MusicStrong Timothy J. Schaid, Executive Director

On behalf of Wis- consin School Mu- s ic As sociat ion (WSMA), Wiscon- sin Music Educa- tors Associat ion (WMEA) and Wis- consin Foundation for School Music (WFSM), I welcome

you to the 2016-17 school year! The WSMA, WMEA and WFSM staff joins me in wishing all the best to you, your school and your school community for an outstanding year of quality music educa- tion experiences for students.

The theme of this issue of Wisconsin School Musician (WSM) is “Wisconsin: MusicStrong.” It is an opportunity for

“BRINGING THE SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY TOGETHER.”

you and your music education colleagues across the state to take pause to celebrate the nationally recognized leadership role Wisconsin has played in music education. Do not ever underestimate the work you have done to perpetuate a high quality music education for Wisconsin students!

Your membership in WMEA and Na- tional Association for Music Educa- tion (NAfME) has also helped to push Wisconsin forward as a leader in music education. WMEA has been a strong advocate for music in Wisconsin because of music educators such as you who have assumed committee or leadership roles with WMEA.

Remember, advocating for music educa- tion in Wisconsin and the nation is depen- dent upon the work of WMEA members. If you are not a member of WMEA and NAfME, I strongly encourage you to join. Becoming a member is just a few clicks away by going to www.nafme.org/join/. Once there, you will complete an applica- tion for membership and select Wisconsin as your Music Educators Association (MEA). That’s it!

If you are already a member of WMEA/ NAfME, you may be active on a commit- tee or in a leadership role. If you are or will become a new member, you should consider becoming active in one or more of the committees and leadership roles listed below. They are arranged in such a way to help you get involved in WMEA on a gradual basis.
