The conference continued with over 100 sessions, which included excellent of- ferings conducted by Wisconsin music educators, industry representatives and honors conductors. Sessions provided a great education and insight in educator effectiveness, literacy, authentic assess- ment, technology, PDP development, RtI, 1:1 computing and much more. In addition, there were many performances by groups that auditioned and were in- vited to perform for the conference, the WSMA Exemplary Soloist Recital given by students from around the state and the WSMA State Honors Project concerts.

The conference included great networking sessions for band, choir, orchestra, col- legiate and general music. This allowed time for music educators to share ideas and ask for advice on various topics. In addition, the WAME committee held an advocacy networking reception, sponsored by NAMM, that provided a space to talk with fellow music educators, legislators and exhibitors. The conference included a great exhibit area. Many attendees used the exclusive exhibit hall time to talk with colleagues and visit the exhibits.

The Aspiring Music Majors program was held on the Friday of conference for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who are interested in pursuing a degree in music. White House of Music sponsored the program and this year’s group had over 50 students and parents in attendance. They listened to great presentations, were encouraged to visit the colleges and other exhibitors, could attend specially selected sessions, had a question and answer ses- sion with collegiate music members, and their parents attended a financial aid session.

WMEA Advocacy Drive-In

Wisconsin Advocates for Music Education (WAME) is having an Advocacy Drive-In Day Wednesday, February 8, 2017. With the Every Student Succeeds Act replacing No Child Left Behind, music is now part of a well-rounded education by law. There is great flexibility on how Wisconsin will implement this new law and it is up to us to influence the direction of music education in Wisconsin for the next decade.

• Come to Madison to share WMEA ‘Asks’ with your state legislators.

• Training will occur that morning before we walk to the Capitol to- gether.

• Advocating for Wisconsin students and the future of music education is worth a personal day! Please check your district’s teacher hand- book prior to taking your personal day and signing up!

We need you to join us! Meet us at The Madison Concourse Hotel (1 W. Dayton St., Madison) at 9 a.m. for training on how to talk to your legislator. We will then go to the Capitol to meet with legislators. Sign up to participate on the WAME web- site: wame.wmea.com. Watch the WMEA Facebook page at facebook.com/groups/ WisconsinMEA for updates.
